PrimeGrid Winter Solstice Challenge December 18-21, with GPUs!

I have one 9800GT running under Linux 64 and expect about 80K ppd.

I have a second 9800GT that I hope to have running by race time.

2 GPUs and 2 quads = 200K+ ppd!

CCC Ver 10.12
ATI 5870
allow GPU Tasks set in Bonic
Windows 7 64 bit
Netframework 3.5.1 SP1


My first time trying to set the GPU to do work. So i'm missing something simple I'm thinking.

Do you have the correct drivers? They should be - according to Ken_g6 - of the APP-variety ... I got the same problem, and I'll check that out late tomorrow.

I found the problem, had to DL the ATI App driver and the latest ATI SDK release.
Downloaded:
CCC 10.12
App Driver
SDK Tools
Reboot.

Now it's working.

on my ATI machines, i just had to install the ATI APP drivers... i didn't need the ATI SDK release.

I'm also running boinc 6.10.58.
Most of my machines have the 10.11 APP... the 10.12 drivers are the same as the 10.11 drivers, just the CCC is updated.

Yes, i downloaded the Update at the bottom, and not the one with the Open GL driver, My mistake.

I also had to (in Bonic) click on advanced in extended view, Choose Preferances, and check the (Use GPU while the computer is in Use) Box.

For the ATI-GPUs the APP-driver is necessary.
I just updated the driver and now my ATI 5850 crunches along very nicely!

I have a X2 3800+/GT240 box that was in the F@H race, but went down with HD problems. I should have it back up by tonight or tomorrow morning. I could throw it into this for three days. I've never done anything other than folding, so someone let me know if it will even be worthwhile to do so. If so, I'll set it up.

OK, I expect the 3800+ will do two WUs in 12 hours. The GT240 will do each WU in less than an hour, I hear.

Looking at the Time's to complete with differant hardware, This should be called the Nvidia Challange.

Cuda has matured into quite the Platform for this type of work.

With All ATI Video cards in my stable, This will be interesting at the very least.

Thanks for the info, but it looks like I'm out. There is something seriously wrong with this box, not just the HD. I would guess the power supply is dying, but I don't have a spare one anymore to test it out (just used to build my other folding machine). I'll have to order a new one, and/or a PS tester. I've had two HDs die in this box in the last two weeks, and even with a new one, it keeps blue-screening, so I'm starting to think it's not a coincidence.

Does anyone here know the how strict Primegrid is on their deadlines? I have 2 units due on the 21st and one due on the 20th that are not going to be done before the challenge begins. I would ideally like to suspend the wu's and pick them up after the challenge is over, but the challenge ends after they are due.

Sorry, that won't work. BOINC won't get any new WUs from a project with suspended WUs.

My God, it took 25 min to fully load the machines.
I think this is the slowest start I have had on all the Challanges.

But on the flip side, there all running now..
