You think so? I tend to doubt it. Look at people like Hendrix and Joplin, still legends.
Yeah, their accomplishments were not tarnished by their ODs. They were just giants.
Not my "favorite" musician, I have 1-2 of his CD's but defiantly an influential musician and more talent than MJ IMO, MJ never learned any instrument and did not produce his own recordings, Prince did. Sadly, his talents and legacy will be tainted if the drug OD was the reason he died so young.
I was thinking the same thing, much more talent than MJ. MJ had his finger on the pulse of pop, Prince was pop personified.

Truthfully Prince's career ended 20 years ago so I'm not sure what all the fuss is about.

Even Drudge had purple fonts on his website.

This Prince story was a lot funnier.

Chicago Bulls forward Carlos Boozer once rented his Beverly Hills house to Prince, and Boozer's former Duke teammate Jay Williams described Tuesday some of Prince's redecorating.

"Booz told me how he had this massive house ... blue fountain waves kind of came down streaming water that led to the front door and all this great stuff," Williams said on "The Waddle & Silvy Show" on ESPN 1000. "And I remember him calling me, 'Dude, you will never guess, I rode past my house like three times, I had no idea it was my house.'

"Supposedly, Prince changed the front gate to the Prince sign, he changed the master bedroom to a hair salon, he changed the streaming blue waters that led to the front door to purple water, he knocked out walls, he changed the molding on top of the ceiling. Booz was livid. So pissed off, so angry ... He put his Purple Rain stamp on it ... Booz was like, 'I was getting ready to go over there and beat this little man down.' And dude was just like 'Here, Boozer, here is a little check for about a million, it'll take care of everything, get it back the way you want it.' And Booz was like , 'This little man is cool as hell.'"

Did you see his performance at the Super Bowl? Ever talked to anyone who's ever seen him in concert? Maybe albums wise he hasn't had a big hit in ages. But everyone I've spoken to who's seen him live said he left them speechless. There will never be another talent and performer of his caliber.

Anyone who downplays Prince's significance doesn't know much about music. He was one of the biggest superstars in the last several decades; his talent as a musician, singer, writer, and performer were second-to-none.

The party downtown last night was wild, and every colored light in town that could be set to purple, was.

RIP Prince much love for ya! Here's hoping his will says release 'the vault' when he dies.
Right, there's probably some genius stuff in the vault, stuff that hasn't been released yet. Hopefully, it will be revealed.

What did he die from?

An announcer was saying he saw Prince play basketball as a teen and what a baller he was.

I can't wrap my head around that fact.

An amazing musician regardless.
Yeah, his first love was basketball, but his destiny was music. He attended a Warriors game in Oakland, they played OKC (think it was last month), he was a Steph Curry fan. He had two shows at the Paramount Theater, then a surprise show at Oracle Arena.

R.I.P.
That seems to be the prevailing theory

HIV + Jehovah Witness + Flu = Death.
In an elevator? I'm thinking drugs, but it's just a guess.

The smart and talent ones are dead and we are stuck with Bieber and the Kardashian clan.

Ya. Apparently he even has tons of expensive music videos that he never released in that "vault".

He certainly did things a different way.

I can get behind this. I respected the man's talent even though I despised his music. I'm not a pop music guy, but Prince was one hell of an entertainer. I would have been willing to go to a show of his if I had ever been able to score tickets for a reasonable price. I tried a couple of times but I just couldn't justify the extreme picket prices. Now I sort of wish I had done it.

The stories of his concerts are the stuff of pop legend. Epic shows lasting for hours and putting his heart and soul into every minute of it.

I like his music just fine, but it was pop. I don't think I've given him much thought since his string of hits and the peak of his stardom in the 80s. Never would have guessed he had 37 albums. I thought he knocked out like 6 or 7 and then turned into Elvis, doing drugs, shooting TVs, changing his name to a symbol, screwing an endless string of needy women.

Did he change anything about American music? Doubtful.

That's just silly talk.

Name something.

He was a major star of the 80s, and you could name 100 more, who if they never existed, would change nothing about anything that's come after them.

Entertaining, extraordinarily gifted musician. A little bit of a nutjob (or maybe a lot), but nothing world changing.

Here are a few facts about Prince.

1) He sold over 100 million of records.
2) He wrote a lot of good songs such as "Nothing Compare To You" by S. O'Conor and "Manic Monday" by The Bangles.
3) He collaborated with other well know singers such as "Stand Back" with Stevie Nicks.
4) He was willing to fight the record company for control of his own music (18 years with Warner Bros.)
5) He could play the guitar, piano, drum, and other musical instruments. No auto tune crap.
6) He was a very darn good basketball player even he was only 5'2" or so.
7) He was not a sold out for money as other singers.
8) He was a singer that appreciated his fans, unlike other singers that behaved like they were all that.
9) He was a very mellow guy, drove around in his neighborhood on a bicycle.

That's all I can remember for now.

You should probably just look into it a bit more. Your condescension doesn't serve you well in this thread, or likely anywhere.
