Print Server hell.. please help.

howdy.

i'm in middle of a weird problem that gave me so much stress today .. your help is really needed!

two weeks ago, i set up a print server (netgear ps113) on a network of 4 computers. (two winxp, two win98) hooked up by a linksys router and 5 port switch.

well..it worked very well at first.. but when the client of mine tried dsl downstairs, it caused the network upstairs to go 'south' .. computers couldn't print.. saying 'cannot connect to print server'

today.. i went there, and uninstalled the print server software and installed again.. all worked fine.. but after computers rebooted.. it all went dead again!.

i'm a neophyte in field of network .. and really can't figure out a way out of this.. plz help.

(i thought about formating and installing clean winxp sp1.. would this help?.. computer has too much HP pos softwares.. )

*how things are connected.

-netgear ps113-
printer1: hp color laser
printer2: hp laserjet
printer3: sharp copier.
--------------------------------------> connected to router (RJ45)

p1: computer1

uplink: linksys 5port switch

Possibly some type of IP conflict? How are addresses being dished out? Dhcp or static?

Good call waveslidin. It sounds to me that it might be an IP conflict aswell. Is the DSL downstairs on your network? Router is probably 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 Find out and make sure that niether the printers (that are configurable) or PC do not have this address. If not make another post with the IPs of each pc. If the DSL is on the network disconnect it from the network and reboot pc's to see if that works.

One quick thing. I thought of after I hit reply. If the people downstairs are on your network I bet that they have a router too. Most routers are setup up as a default ip of 192.168.1.1
