Printer: Epson and Canon

Epson RX510 is my current Choice.

Would like to compare with Canon range.

RX510 is an All In One Printer. I do not mind to sacrifice the All In One function for a photo print out quality.

I took a look at Canon Range, the problem is, my previous range was 3 color + 2 photo color (S800), now, if i were to judge in terms of color for the performance, then i would have to go really high range.

Epsons piezioelectric printheads tend to clog.

There are smart chips in their cartridges. If you refill you'll need a chipsetter.

There are some lawsuits against Epson for cartridge shenanigans.

OTOH, Epson would be my second choice to Canon.

But Canons clear carts are the way to go.

Canon printheads tend to clog too. Especially when you haven't printed for months...

That lawsuit against Epson is very one-sided and frivilous. Epson cartridges that contain IntelliEdge chips are manfactured with an ink reservoir that is designed to keep air bubbles (very damaging to a printhead) from forming in their MicroPiezo printheads. Notice that Epson does not reveal the actual ink volume in their cartridges, but rather rates their cartridges' expected print output. In other words, when you pay for a cartridge that is rated for 600 prints at 5% letter pattern coverage, that's what you should expect. Of course, mileage indeed varies; printing a page with a mix of text and images will probably be closer to 20-30% coverage.

The other argument that this lawsuit stresses is how Epson printers stop printing when one cartridge runs out of usable ink. Well, this is a mixed blessing. On one hand, it's frustrating not to be able to print black text when the stupid magenta cartridge runs out of ink, but on the other, it's nice to know that printing will pause if you run out of a color in the middle of printing a photo. You can just swap the cartridge and resume.

BTW, not everyone refills their cartridges. I do a lot of photo printing and I expect my prints to last long and have accurate color saturation. Cheap aftermarket ink doesn't cut it in that situation. But for normal text printing you probably won't see a difference.

So I guess if you don't like these things about Epson you don't have to buy one.

I do agree on the Canon print head clogs on my S800. Its really ridiculous as I am not brief of this.

I bring it to the maintaiance, they first reaction is, My god, your printer is so clean and new. (because S800 is consider an old module now thou its a highend product at that time).

Then they tell me that my print head clog because of low usage. Darn. please express your opinion if u were me.

I have the canon S800 also and it has a much better picture output than the epson R300 I recently bought for printing on CD/DVDs. I've never had a print head clog on the canon.

Never had my canon's ink heads clog on me.... however, two of my epsons died that way...
