Meanwhile, the writer of this piece picked up a $40 inkjet cartridge and made it do a little dance in the air in front of the baby.
The baby reached out a hand and shoved it away.

I junked my HP because of the cost of carts. I was able to refill HP carts several times but the quality wasn't that great and ink ended up leaking out. Brand new actual Canon carts cost about $11.99 for my S750 which isn't bad compared to the $30-$35 it cost for my HP. Now I just buy the cheap ones off the web for $2.99. Maybe I should buy a backup S750 and keep it in the closet incase everyone starts using these killer chips in their printers.

You are forgetting that its not 11.99 for all the colors, its 11.99 for each color so really its pretty much 36 bucks for all 3 colors which is about the same if not more as the HP carts which you do get more ink with.
It is true that HP has some of the more expensive ink carts. But they are not as expensive as Lexmark and you get more ink per dollar than with most other brands.

Jeez,
Throw your Epsons and HP's and Lexmarks in the dumper. Get a Canon that uses BCI-3 or BCI-6 cartridges like a i850 or i950 (for more serious photo people but the i850 does great photos) and either buy generic cartridges for $2, refill or get a continuous feed.
I've refilled the same bci-3 cartridge over 100 times!
One word about Lexmarks, HPs and Epsons...
"Sucka" If the ink were gasoline, it would cost you $175,000 to fill your gas tank....

-S750 - long gone - great printer though
-I550 - just went on clearance today... 79.90, awesome price
-F30 all in one, long gone
-F60 all in one, long gone
- 7130? Cannons new all in one - avaiable
6 series
-I850
-I950
The thing that sucks is that Canon, Epson, HP and Lexmark are all switching to smaller style cartiages. For example the HP 45 had 42 ml of ink in it. The new HP's only have 17 The newer Canons use the OLD style BCI-24's which are even more insane. Its 8 bucks for 9 ml. Its tough to say what to look, but just stay the hell away from Lexmark.

Hee, I think I know what you're talking about.
A friend of mine lives near a Staples outlet. They have a printer there, some model of Lexmakrk I believe, that sells for around $50 with both colour and black cartridges.
The ink for this sucker goes for $60 for both a colour and black cartridges.
That's right! The world's first disposable printer!
