Printer problem...Error writing to LPT1

EDIT: Oh, yeah, just d/l ed new drivers for printer and 4-in-1 drivers for VIA
and installed them.

EDIT#2: I just printed a page from the scanner and it worked. Just ain't
printing from the puter.

Try disabling bi-directional support (At the bottom of the spool settings page).

Also, if you're not connected directly to the printer via parallel (ie going through a switchbox or another device), switch so you are.

Make sure you have no other status monitors or anything else running that might interfere with parallel communications.

How will the LPT be listed in the bios? You know on an ABIT Soft menu?

It was set on "Normal" and I changed it to "ECP" but that didn't fix the problem. Still get the error message when I try to print from the files.

When you print from the files, check the printer properties in the print setup of the program itself and make sure from the files it is printing to the proper port. Also check to be sure that the HP printer properties shows it printing to LPT1. THis isnt a multifunction printer is it? I have heard that HP multifunction printers have problems with some OS.

Can it print from DOS? Can other applications print to it? Can the printer print a self test page? Is the LPT port listed in the device list under Ports?

You have the printer plugged into the same port as the scanner, using a pass through port? Lose the scanner connection and see if you can print to that port.

I would suggest d/l the latest drivers for your scanner also. I had this same problem. Something is not right and not passing through the scanner to the printer.

I have a KT7 and I have my bios set to ECP. Try that or try the ECP/EPP setting.
