PRK eyes surgery check in.

This is my second post 5 hours after PRK eyes surgery.

Having surgery at the clinic in town.

They were disorganize and gave me the wrong prescriptions hence I purchased the wrong drugs before the operation date. The were unorganized, so they rushed to give me the head up on what to do with the drugs.

The tech were a bit sharp/rude with me (she told me "you are not the only client, we have done this before, and we only retest people that wear contact lens") when I asked her if there is a preliminarily test/s before the surgery commence as my understanding that should get one (they did a series of tests 3 weeks before my surgery to see if I'm a candidate for it, and told me that I will get another test before surgery).

I should have walk out of the operation room at that moment because I fell uncomfortable, however I have waited almost a month for this surgery.

1 hour after surgery -- Light headed, with a headache, eyes swollen and barely open

3 hours after surgery -- Headache came down like a ton of brick, and extreme teary eyes, eyes are red and hurts, eyes open slightly better than first hour.

4 hour -- minutes after 2 Tylenol3 things feels better, 3 different eyes drops sure help with the pain and redness, and can take picture of eyes (eys still swollen and barely open as first hour,)

I have documented pics, but will post them in once my vision improve and the lens are off my eyes.

Sorry if there is any spelling mistake....I can barely see, specially with the sunglasses on.

Yeah... I couldn't look at practically any light source for a day after my surgery. For the day or two after, I had the brightness turned all the way down on my monitor.

I hope things end up well for you. I had Lasik in 2002 and it was pretty scary sitting there with laser cut flaps on my corneas not being able to see the end of my nose while I waited my turn with 10 other people for the 2nd laser to reshape my cornea.

You will be fine. Just log off, shut em eyes for 24 hours, enjoy the xanax/valium you got for the procedure. Drop some artificial tears (I found Systane Ultra beat all on market) and in 3 mo, you will wonder why you didn't do it sooner.

anyway, I'm very apprehensive about all of the popular eye surgeries. They became so damn popular over the night that hordes of fly-by-night shady operations descended upon the industry. You should always go to a reputable optomotrist for an initial consultation before considering surgery, but sometimes that isn't enough. they might send you to an opthomologist that they simply don't well enough, or despite decent creds, only picked up a machine to jump on the bandwagon and has too little experience.

It was in Feb of 2007. First week was painful. Then my eyes opened to a wonderful world of worry free seeing with NO side effects. Overall quality of vision is excellent, with better quality of night vision than with glasses. I've paid 2x as much as I would with regular place, but it was worth all the money, if not 2x what I've paid for. You'll love it in a week, but DO use eye drops and get RayBan sunglasses.

Did you get the regular old fashion PRK or was it Wavefront Epi-Lasik?

Epi-Lasik might sound like it is a variant of Lasik but it isn't, it is a modern version of PRK.

14 hours -- eyes are slightly sore, open a little larger and vision is a bit better, bruising are visible, mild headache, took 1 Tylenol3 just to be on the safe side, and drops as prescribed.

Benefits of prk over regular LASIK?

I know the military prefers it because of the recovery time but my recovery was 16 hours before I could drive again after LASIK. After another week the fogginess went away. After an additional week the starburst around lights was gone. Been great ever since.

16 hours after surgery.

Eyes are slightly red, extremely dry eyes when I woke up right eye lens dislodged when I first blink and yes are a bit sored (possibly drugs are wearing off). Difficulty at keeping eyes open. eyes are tearing like no tomorrow.

Must eat to take drug and go to the doc office for post operation checkup.

I went with PRK because I have 1 deep scratch on the right cornea, and 2 on the left. PRK remove scratch and LASIK doesn't remove scratch.

Benefits of prk over regular LASIK?

PRK doesn't leave a flap like traditional LASIK. There are some incidents of the flap coming loose and disrupting vision. I think there's a new version of LASIK that avoids this issue.

Doc told me that my eyes are doing good, and I should come for a check up on Monday morning. He also told me to call him at home if there is any complication for the rest of the weekend.

He told me that I shouldn't running around outside doing stuffs because those that do things outside seems to take longer to heal. He toll me no TV, or computer, and try to relax. Did not mention darkroom or anything. Didn't even said sleep.

I don't think 5 minutes of computer time every 4 hours is going to hurt my eyes, and I'm doing it with sunglasses on

Yeah, my dad said it was the most boring few days of his life. Can't watch tv, can't read, can't do a crossword... He laid on the couch with his eyes closed and did nothing. You sleep during the day due to boredom, then you're all groggy and not tired when it is bedtime. I think the highlight of the day was when he had to put the sunglasses on and crack his eyes open so he could go to the bathroom.

There are many people who cannot do LASIK due to thin or irregular shape cornea. LASIK still has complications for people who are on high altitudes.
