At first glance at the title I thought this was related to eye surgeries in the DPRK. Saw a bit on NatGeo once where they snuck in cameras with a Doctors Without Borders type of group that performed laser eye surgeries for free. Once the patients vision was restored, they would cry uncontrollably about being able to see Kim Jong Ill's face that is plastered everywhere and gave him all the credit. Doctors did not seem to get as much of a thank you. It was quite strange to watch.

Anyway, all of those I know that have had laser eye surgery are quite happy, no long term or negative effects at all. But as others have said you should not be looking at a computer monitor, sleep was the most recommended from what I remember.

Wavefront PRK, premium package with lifetime warranty (any additional corrective surgery are free in the future).

14 hours -- eyes are slightly sore, open a little larger and vision is a bit better, bruising are visible, mild headache, took 1 Tylenol3 just to be on the safe side, and drops as prescribed.

how much did you pay for wavefront PRK?

I originally had CustomVue Lasik last June and it was a breeze. Eyes were a bit scratchy the first night, but I woke up and drove myself to my follow up appointment early the next morning. It was pretty cool that they cut the flap and laid it back down afterwards.

However, my left eye settled in at 20/30 with a slight astigmatism so I needed an enhancement. Because the treatment area was larger than the previous flap area, PRK was needed instead of Lasik. Also, because I previously had Lasik my surgeon didn't want to use the standard brush that's normally used because it might disrupt the existing flap seal or something.

Because of that, he went at my eye with a scalpel by hand. Now THAT'S an experience. "Focus on that red light." is what I was told, but was difficult as my eye was literally getting pulled and pushed all around by a scalpel for 5 minutes. I couldn't feel it so it wasn't too bad, I just kept thinking about when we dissected a cow's eye in third grade, and how it popped and stuff oozed out everywhere...when a scalpel was pressed into it.

The worst part was the following day, because the contact lens that was used to protect the eye was apparently slightly too small. It was the most pain I think I've been in besides a broken arm. It was devastating. I couldn't open my eye even if I tried. Could barely keep it open the next day at my follow up for him to take the lens out and give me a bigger one.

That was in December, and I'm still not seeing clearly. I went in for a follow-up a couple weeks ago and he said "it looks like it's still healing slowly, we'll have to wait for 3 months of stable prescription before we consider another enhancement." I think I'm currently between 20/40 and 20/30 but nearsighted this time (was far sighted before enhancement).

Gotta love it.

This. I'm betting OP is going to be one of those people bitching about how bad the surgery is in a few months, when he blatantly didn't follow directions afterward.

OP: IT'S YOUR FREAKIN EYEBALLS. Do whatever the doctor tells you and GET OFF THE DAMN COMPUTER.

Yeah. My first thought last night was to save this thread for posterity, when dipshit OP tries to sue doc for malpractice after he clearly isn't doing his part of the work.

:hmm:

Doc told me that my eyes are doing good, and I should come for a check up on Monday morning. He also told me to call him at home if there is any complication for the rest of the weekend.

He told me that I shouldn't running around outside doing stuffs because those that do things outside seems to take longer to heal. He toll me no TV, or computer, and try to relax. Did not mention darkroom or anything. Didn't even said sleep.

I don't think 5 minutes of computer time every 4 hours is going to hurt my eyes, and I'm doing it with sunglasses on

Jesus Hume Christ you are fucking thick.

$3350

And so far $207 worth of drugs.

24 hours.

Much better vision, eyes are a bit dry, red eyes seems to be gone, very little evident of swollen eyes left, soreness seems to be almost gone (could be the drugs), outside is a bit bright (must wear sunglass to look outside). Eyes almost back to normal in picture,

Where do you live that it's that expensive? You could have flown first class to St. Louis and had it done by Steve Wexler (30k+ procedures, including Tiger Woods and a bunch of other people who could easily have it done anywhere) for less than that.

You followed his orders by coming here, presumably on a computer of some sort, to post about how he told you not to use a computer?

Victoria BC Canada.

It is the only clinic in town. There are others cheaper clinic ($1000 less) around that treated me more professionally (2 hours drive away, or 4-5 hours drive/ferry), however I pick the local clinic to minimize travel time if I run into post operation complication/s.

I could have it done with traditional method for as little as $1400~1600 in Vancouver but it is not worth the risks if I run into post op complication/s.

PS. This premium package include lifetime warranty corrective surgery if I require it (there are cheaper packages that cost $2000 and $2500 at this clinic). I'm not taking chances on my eyes, hence I pay for the best service that I can get.

He said my vision isn't good enough to work on the computer. Not thing about not able to spend a couple of minutes on it.

The problem with that is he paid for the lifetime corrective surgery deal. Having a couple flights back and forth for fix ups is kind of a deal breaker.

My dad has had a few touch ups with his clinic here after PRK and it was worth the extra money. They actually noticed some unassociated retina detachment which they were able to weld back down with a different laser, and did that a few times on both eyes to get it figured out, then got a final PRK touch up to the surface as well.

I considered Dr. Mian for my cornea transplant. Glad to hear it went well for you.

Whoa!
What happened? You can PM me if you don't feel comfortable talking about it in public? Also, congrats on choosing the UofM. They have seen so many screwed up eyes, your procedure won't be anything difficult for them.

Edit: Give me a call if you won't have a ride. I can be a free picoff anddropoff to a fellow AT member.

Had free PRK from the Air Force. Both eyes are 20/15 now, a year and half later.

47 hours, woke up with out dry eyes for the first time, vision improved dramatically, sight still slightly blurry (can possibly drive, but not going to temp it), slight bruising still visible, and tired baggy eyes.

Keratoconus, nothing actually "happened." My right cornea is thin and misshapen and I have been unable to be fitted with a contact for about 5 years now and thus mostly unable to see out of that eye. I'll probably do it in my left eye in the near future as well if it goes well.

Ended up going with Dr. Dunn in Southfield, although they're both very good doctors. Should be fun times. It's not quite as dramatic as it sounds.

Monday night left eye contact lens fell out (no complication of putting it back in).

Contact lens supposedly be remove today but doc said to comeback tomorrow for removal to prevent sore eyes because cornea is 98% heal. Vision is quite good in the last couple of days and only couple instants of dry eyes.

My doc reccomended intralase over prk even for law enforcement. Said it is extremely rare for a flap dislocation, and the military conducted several tests to make sure flaps dont come loose under extreme circumstances.

Obviously a finger to the eye could do it but you may get a scratched cornea regardless.

Scheduled in may.
