Bump. Interested in knowing how iGas, mizzou and anybody else are doing post surgery?

Looking into it for next year, as I need to decide on how much to put in my HSA for next year.

I have my 6 month postop review coming soon. Vision is still fantastic, 20/16. My left eye is fucking stellar. My right eye is also stellar, but not AS sharp as my left, but no worries its pretty damn close.

No halos, i use artific tears sometimes, but i only seem to have dryness issues if im really dehydrated like in the morning or late evening.

Only had a few eye intruding mishaps and no issues yet, stray finger and a rocket of water from drivig car with the window down when wet outside.

I am extrmemly pleased with the results. Keep in mind I only did this to get into a new career

I just had my consultation (second) this morning and will be getting PRK done in March as I don't qualify for LASIK (cornea strength is on the bubble).

Back from the dead but slight update.. had surgery last Thursday. Everything seems to be running its route. First two days were hell with light and such.. but Sunday was great until it started getting blurry. It's remained blurry (I can see but its not perfect) and have a number of weeks or months ahead before I'm fully healed. Had the protective contacts removed this morning.

I must say.. seeing that black disk coming towards your eye was not fun.

I had PRK done 7 weeks ago. My eyes were left -4.25 and right -8.0. 2 weeks ago I went in and my vision was 20/20 in my left eye and 20/30 in my right. They expect my eyes to continue to improve. I have to take those damn FML drops 4 times a day still. FML indeed... They drip down into my sinuses when I jog and taste NASTY.

I was told not to do anything concentrating with my eyes for 3 days (reading, computer, texting, TV) and couldn't drive for a week. Dealing with the boredom was the worst part for me the first week. I was extremely light sensitive on day 2 also, but the pain was no big deal.

I had a little regular eye dryness up until a week ago, but have been very liberal with the eye drops, especially at night before bed and the first thing in the morning when I get up.

As for the surgery itself I was fascinated during the entire thing. Nervous just before, but as soon as I got in the chair and they started explaining everything I was good. Watching the surgery as it happened kept me distracted and fascinated. It was like watching a laser light show in your own eye. Colors flying all over in electric spark deep color patterns or wavy pastel patterns depending on the stage of the surgery. And it was very quick. 10-15 min total.

Does anyone else still reach for your glasses in the morning? or reach to take them off before a shower? or go to push them up and realize you don't wear glasses anymore? or feel your eyes getting dry and think for just a second that you should go take out your contact lenses...

Those eye drops are supposed to be super expensive (and not covered by insurance), correct?

I guess it depends on your insurance. I changed my insurance this year so that it would cover nearly all of the eye surgery, but nothing else, except dental. (I'm in Canada, so I'm covered for anything serious anyway and regular doctor appointments, I just have to pay for all prescriptions, paramedical stuff like physio, massage, etc if I need it for the next 2 years). (Edit: and travel medical insurance too which I am actually going to miss a lot this year! But I can buy that separately)

I can't remember off the top of my head how much FML drops cost, but I think it was around $25-30 per bottle, and I'm halfway through my third one in 7 weeks. I'll double check and edit this post when I get home. If I hadn't used up all the insurance money on the surgery they would have been covered, but my insurance covers absolutely anything, even the premiums I pay through the year (usually $150/year, the rest is paid by employer) if I have any health spending account money left over at the end of the year.

Edit: FML 3 bottles cost me 40.70 without insurance. Zymar was the expensive one at $29.36/bottle, but I only needed one of those.

I somewhat agree. It was like my eyes were in a rave.

Is that the fluorometholone one? Mine were included with my take home kit. I'm supposed to use them for the next 2 weeks and then be completely done with them.

Yeah that's what mine says. Fluorometholone. They told me to take them 4 times a day for a month, then we'll see. Then I went back after a month and they said to keep taking them for another month 4 times a day, but likely I have to continue for 9 MONTHS! Yuck.

She said it was because my right eye was so bad originally and it is still correcting itself. They told me the drops were anti-inflammatory originally, but when I went last time she said they also slow down the healing process. This is a good thing because if your eyes heal too quickly they are more likely to try to revert back to their original quality of vision.

Just had a followup appointment. Its been about 6 weeks since I had surgery done and I'm at 20/15 in the left eye, 20/20 in the right eye.. and they expect it to improve more.
