PRO-92b Trunked handheld Police Scanner @ RS for $49.99 YMMV

Visited my local RS and found some Pro-92b Police scanners, and they have them for $49.99 clearance.
I was able to get (3) just like brand new, with boxes and manuals and all.

This is a good deal for those of us who monitor Trunked frequencies in the 400/800mhz.. and at this price, its a hot seller if you can find one..

what can these pick up beside police and emergency stuff? I live in philadelphia and were all digital here.

Sometimes, they will even give you another 10% or so off, if you buy an open box/display item.

I have one of these. Check out http://www.pro-92 for help programming it. You'll want to use Don Starr's Win92 software, and a connection cable to program it, as it's much easier to use the computer, rather than trying to finger all the frequencies in.

They are best at trunking, but they will pick up a good bit of the 900mhz band (think non-spread spectrum 900mhz cordless phones... ) from 900-929 is good, but higher than that and you'll pick up squealing "birdies" that inhibit its reception.

It'll pick up a good bit of aviation band, cb band, but it won't pick up the 800-855 cell phone band. To get this band, you'll need something like a Yupiteru 7100 from Great Britain (check ebay for one of these). The Yup won't trunk, but it's WIDE OPEN on ALL freqs.

Not that I'd actually listen to any illegal channels. Nope, not me. And neither should you!

For digital, i'd wait for the new PRO-96 due out this fall from RS... but not everything is digital, there's still alot of
analog transmission ..

As for monitoring illegal frequencies, i'd say as long as you keep it to yourself.. there's nothing "wrong" about it.

Who still has analog cell phones these days?

Nobody has analog cell phones any more. However, the tower repeaters ARE analog. If one were to use his Yupiteru 7100 in the USA to listen to the 800-850mhz band, one would here a TON of cell phone conversations with crystal clear clarity.
