Pro Audio people?

I need to put together a good quality PA system for my band, I am looking hard at the following components:

Mackie CFX20 mixer
Mackie 1400i amp

are these good components? I like the 5 year warrenty, and the specs look pretty good to me, I don't really know much about pro audio though. Any suggestions? What kind of speakers would go good with this stuff? Thanks for the help.

those are fine, what kind of budget do you have? I would look at peavey speakers, because they're pretty cheap. They suck though.

That mackie amp is a POS. I worked for a company that bought 150 of them and when they arrived they were all DOA. Thats right not a single amp would power up. To make matters worse Mackie didnt want to take them back, they said we should just have them all serviced.
The boss just about blew his stack because it would take months to fix that many amps at an authorized repair center. After a few days of phone calls with mackie they finally took them all back and ship a second batch. The second batch was better but only half the amps worked so the rest had to be serviced.

After that the company never buys anything from mackie they use all crown amps now because they have a 3 year no fault warranty and there rock solid.

Mackie makes a great mixer but their amps are fecal matter. jacobnero6918 is right. Crown amps are very nice. As far as speakers Klipsch and JBL make some decent ones that are not too pricey.

thanks for the advise, so the cfx20 is a good mixer? I will avoid the mackie amp, and take a look at crown. My budget is around $2000, maybe a little more. I want to get pretty nice equipment. any other recomendations? Thanks again.

are Carvin speakers any good? I'm looking for 2 speakers with 15" woofers, and I don't think I want to spend more than $500 for each for them, any recomendations in this price range?

Our band's lead guitarist has a Carvin Legacy half-stack and it it a very high quality amp. I'v used their guitars as well and they are very nice. I've never had experience with their PA systems but I'm sure that the quality is the same as their guitar amps and guitars. It doesn't seem like they make anything that is crap.
