Pro Poker players--any other "professions" that don't provide any service/good to society?

Counting taxes aside, is there any other profession that provides zero benefit to society in terms of any sort of good/service? In essence their living and income is derived from taking money from others, who are less skilled at the game..and for every person who plays poker online or goes to the casinos that loses hundreds of dollars, they benefit off of that, and their income is derived off the misery and losings of others.

Is there any other legal "profession" out there that that could be said of?

Again, they provide a service injured person..they may hurt other aspects of society, but for at least one person that's a service that they're providing.

That's how life is, if one person wins someone else has to lose. Honestly who gives a shit if you are "helping society" if your job makes money and supports your family that's enough. Pro Poker players wouldn't be making so much $ if there wasn't some kind of demand, aka value to the job they do.

Professional Chess player would be similar. Other than to the actual people playing, it's worthless.... but that's perfectly fine. It only has to have value to those who engage in it.

A professional poker player is providing others with the chance to take his money. That is what he's giving to society. There is no difference between the pro and the amateur before the games starts. They are both providing each other with the opportunity to take their money.

Give me an example where it isn't true. The world has a finite amount of resources, if someone else gets something that means another person has to be losing it.

The intelligence is weak with this one.

Any profession involved in speculation.

Speculation <> Investment.

Speculation doesn't create real wealth in an economy.

Poker could be considered in the same league as sports stars nowadays. Attracts tons of viewers for all those poker shows, therefore entertainment.

There isn't such legal profession, no one would willingly pay someone to do a job with no benefit to anyone.

Uh, completely wrong? Entertainment? Provides jobs for thousands of others. Again, completely wrong.

If no one was entertained by professional poker, it wouldn't be on ESPN. It is, to a smaller scale, the same as every other sport.
