Wow, its been 4 years since I have posted at Anandtech... surprised my account hasn't been trashed.

I have an 915GAG (intel board... dont ask why) with their 3.0ghz LPGA775 chip. I want to put in in an Antec Aria mATX case, but am looking for a heatsink/fan to give me good performance (over their stock one) that will fit. I have seen the Thermaltake heatpipe solution and it was way too big because of the cd rom that has to fit on top of the cpu area...

Any suggestions would be welcome.

I would stick with the stock fan then. All the good ones are too big for that case. And the only other one is the Thermaltake Jungle 512 which sucks. Way too loud and not worth getting instead of the stock. You aren't going to find much anything that will actually fit in that case.

you should know that the aria isnt anywhere near good cooling. it runs HOT because of its horrible airflow, and to match that up with a prescott will make it run hotter. it doesnt matter what hsf you use. it's all because of the compactness inside the case. now if you were to fan mod it, it would be fine.

Ahhh... Crap... T'was a special offer at a computer store...

Prescott 3.0 and Intel D915GAG... I am just looking for a nice compact case which I can lug around without having to mod the case (too much), or go TEC or h2O.

Any suggestions?

Hmmm...I know a Zalman 7000A Cu should fit heigth-wise under the PSU on any board in an Aria. Looking at the picture of your board on newegg though, I'm concerned about the heatsink on the chipset - might be too close for the Zalman....hard to say.

Mik3y is right, the aria tends to run a might warm without modding some air intake. This can be corrected by adding an 80mm fan in one of the side panels. Or if you're more adventerous check out My Aria Mod

Good luck mate, let us know how it turns out.

I dont plan on overclocking it, but am afraid of temperatures killing my performance...
I'll take a look at the heatsink, but the mod's are a lil too time consuming for me.

Thanks for the advice, that mod page you sent me to is VERY helpful.

Cheers, buddy.

Man that's a sweet looking mod. Wish I had the know-how and patience to pull off something like that

Although I am contemplating doing a front ducting mod now...
Pure Copper HSF (Vantec or Zalman) and ducting mod still not good enough?

it'll be fine. as for teh hsf, go with the zalman. it's one of the best hsf's you can get for money, performance, and quietness.
