My mother is several years older and has been saying "I'm dying" all my life, so I tune it out. She just said it again yesterday a couple hours before I read this post. It really makes me think.

I'm sorry to hear that. Losing a parent is a horrible event, and one you'll never hear me joke about - with anyone. Lost my dad in July of 2013, still really hard to talk about. I hope your last talk with her was better than the one I had with my dad, the mountain of stomach-twisting regret I have over it is something I wouldn't wish on anyone.

My mom broke her hip then had a severe stroke during the surgery to repair it over the holidays last year. Although she's still alive she's in bad shape confined to a nursing home.

I am sorry that your mom passed. Time makes things a little easier, but the empty spot in your life remains.

I lost my mom in June 2013. It still gets rough around the holidays...and here they come again.
