Problem about Optical Mouse

I've been using a MS Wheel Optical mouse for about 2 years , had no problems at all. But suddenly , it's light started to go off , but only when i move the mouse. When it stands still , it doesnt happen. For 10-15 minutes it happened every time i move the mouse. Then i got an error "USB Device is not attached" , after that it worked fine for some minutes , then same thing started to happen again and it still continues.

Do i need to buy a new mouse ? Or it could be a problem of USB or Windows or something else ?

(I re-installed the drivers etc. Using Win Xp. But dont know what else to try. Thanks.)

I would open up the mouse and see if there is anything loose inside. Sounds like either the cable is coming loose inside or there may be a break in the cable somewhere.

i'd clean it, after 2 years of use, it's probably gotten gunked up inside. or just buy a new mouse.

Dunno why but its working fine now , i've checked the cable etc. but it doesnt look like its related with it. Gonna buy a new one when it completely stops workin. Thanks much for replies.

It's the cable, just where it enters the mouse housing.

Open up the mouse, stuff the cable in a little further (so the old flex point is now inside and protected), close it up and you're good for another two years.
