Do you have any programs running in the background that can slow your computer down? Like "Norton System Doctor" for example? If that is the case, turn them off.

Make sure that DMA is enabled for your hard drive. Other than that I'm dumbfounded.

Hmm, check in BIOS, set back to default. Look for IRQ sharing in Device Manager. Check for BIOS updates. Updated mobo drivers...etc. If you've done all this, I dunno what to say, perhaps re-install windows.

What mobo do you have?

How many network cards do you have in your machine? I've seen the exact same thing happen with two network cards that didn't like each other.

Recent problem or problem from day one? If so, when did it start?
Not IRQ conflicts? CPU usage constantly at 100%?

I haven't seen anything like this yet, but I can try to help diagnose it.

Got a cordless kb and mouse by any chance? Sometimes if you dont have the transmitter box located right, like it's behind something, that will happen too. Otherwise, I would go into device manager, remove all your card drivers, shut down, pull everything except the basics, video and network card. Reboot and see if you still have the problem. If not, then you can try rearranging cards.

Well, let's start with this first:

Usually you can configure IRQ steering in the BIOS. Let's see. On the P3V133, it should be under the "Advanced Tab">"PCI Configuration".

There are only 4 IRQs for all your AGP and PCI slots in your system. Figure out which ones are shared (usually AGP with PCI1). Specify a different IRQ for cards that need its own (ie. NIC, sound card). The shared slots should contain cards that cooperate. You may need to shift some cards around.

You then need to make Windows work with this configuration. If it doesn't automatically do it, you'll need to go into "Device Manager">"System Devices">"PCI Bus">"IRQ Steering". Try different combinations of the check boxes or uncheck PCI steering altogether. You'll need to reboot each time.

Hope that helps. Keep us posted on your progress. Good luck.

<< nividia geforce and acpi irq sharing IRQ 11 >>

Does it read "ACPI IRQ Holder for PCI Steering"? If so, that is normal. The "ACPI IRQ Holder for PCI Steering" acts as an IRQ placeholer for your PCI/AGP cards.

Do you have any IRQs that are not used? I've found that it is usually best to have a unique IRQ for the network card and a different one for the sound card. These devices can sometimes interfere with each other and result in the symptoms you described.

Are these devices conflicting as shown in "Device Manager"?

Yes, these are normal. They work in conjunction.

You can't really change them directly in Windows without doing some registry hacking and the like, but you can steer them to where they ought to be. This often involves a lot of trial and error.

<< Usually you can configure IRQ steering in the BIOS.

>>

Also, enable PNP OS installed if availiable.

*Note: Assuming that you've listed everything you have in your system already, I would have the cards in the following order from right to left:
[AGP] video card
[PCI1]
[PCI2] network card
[PCI3]
[PCI4] sound card

Then in the BIOS, assign the following IRQs:
[PCI1] 11
[PCI2] 10
[PCI4] 9

Save settings and exit to restart. Then hope that Windows recognizes the IRQ configuration.

If it doesn't,...

<< You then need to make Windows work with this configuration. If it doesn't automatically do it, you'll need to go into "Device Manager">"System Devices">"PCI Bus">"IRQ Steering". Try different combinations of the check boxes or uncheck PCI steering altogether. You'll need to reboot each time. >>

That's the only way I know of doing it. Good luck.
