Problem Defragmenting in Windows XP

This problem just started:

When I defragment with Windows XP it says:

some files on this volume could not be defragmented
Please check the defragmentation report for the list of these files

When I check the report there is absolutely nothing listed, I tried running checkdisk and booting into safe mode and nothing has resolved the issue. The defragmenter worked fine two days ago.

Here are the list of the changes I made to the system since then:
Installed MS Dual Core Hotfix
N-Lite
Microsoft Net Framework
I disabled a few services

Do you think anyof these would be the root of the issue?

Do you have some huge files on there? Also, XP can't defrag all the system files since they are in use, but they don't typically give you that message.

If you're a defrag freak like me, it's worth buying O&O Defrag, great program and it gives you a TON of details that you can't get from the stock XP defragmenter.

Well I do have a few large files but they never gave me a problem before. It just seems odd that it would just start doing this, I never had this problem before. Im going to try and mess with the services i changed and see if that helps. I disabled the system restore one since I dont use but maybe thats what is causing the problem

The report does say there is one fragmented file, but it doesnt list the file in the report where it normally does, so I have no idea where the file is or what it is thats causing the problem.

Nothing to do with system restore, leave that POS off, my 2 cents.

My guess, it's a big video file. Look for the largest file on your drive in question, move it to another partition and try defrag again.

I don't know why Windows XP is reporting the problem, but
why don't you download the 30 day free trial of voptXP from Golden Bow Software & use it to defrag.

NTFS system files can't be defragged in Windows. There is more to defragging. You also want good optimization. Try PerfectDisk 7 as well. It can't be beat - not even by Diskeeper.
