I think at least one person who responded "hell no" might have a problem reading directions as they also voted for a Mobo.

I have an Asus A8n SLI Deluxe which I apparently bought too soon (overpaid for). It set up with NO problems and has been running flawlessly since January. Which is more than I can say for myself.

I voted no, the hardware firewall is an absolute nightmare to setup and use on the A8N-SLI, it hogs resources like no-ones business, and you have to program individual ports rather than whole programs..

I eventually reverted back to trusty Macaffee

No problems at all. I ordered a Monarch CPU/MB combo for the warranty - just in case - but I haven't needed to use it. I haven't used the hardware firewall though. I just use my router for firewall (risky but least resource intensive).

Can you go into more detail of the resources it hogs exactly and how much and why and when? Is this an nforce4 thing or an asus thing. Can someone with a dfi board comment on their experience with the resources that the active armour firewall consumes? Is dfi supperior in the active armour implementation that the asus or the same? Should not they be the same.,Thanks.

K8NXP-SLI stable as a rock till now.

However the accompanying Wi-Fi PCI Card is causing me problems, so I didn't install it.

I think I read somewhere that the NVidia's plan behind the firewall was for application vendors to make apps that take advantage of it and not for end users to play with it.

Very happy with DFI NF4 Ultra. Running flawlessly since day 1. The folks at DFI-Street are a great resource. If only I could fit a Zalman NB47J on the board ...

Is it really in the way the the first pxi-e slot.
By the way, can you run just a single card off the 2nd slot (one away from the processor and where putting a passive northbridge would not interfer? Or does the manual say you must populate the pci-e slot closest to the processor first?

By the way,is you fan noisy? What do you think it is in relation to the Asus a8n-sli Deluxe's fan? How many rpm does it go?

Yes it really is a tight fit between my X800 XL and the chipset HSF. We are talking millimeters here. The fan is dynamic and varies with temp. This is adjustable in the BIOS but I can't hear it over the other fans in my case. The fan goes all the way up to 8000 RPM.

I have no idea how it sounds compared to the Asus fan but others who have migrated from Asus to DFI says it is quieter.

You can put the GFX card in the other PCIe slot but it is slower. The default speed of the other PCIe slot is 2x so you have to switch the jumper blocks to SLI mode. This switches the slot to 8x. The penalty is only 1% in 3DMark in 8x. Again all of this is anecdotal since I have not tried it. You can all your answers regarding the DFI boards at DFI-Street.

Thanks for the info SilkySmooth.
So if I read you right, you are saying it is a super tight clearance over the stock fan on the nforce4 stock heatsink.

And I guess you are also saying there appears to be a work around if a tall passive heatsink were placed on the nforce4 chip -- and that work around is to use the sli-bridge, and a single card in the pci-e slot away from the cpu -- freeing up the 1st slot and thus the passive tall heatsink. For the current cards that barely even use the 8x bandwidth, it should work. But in the future, if a high bandwidth card is made then you need to stick it in the 1st pci-e slot. Did I read this exactly right?

Thanks a million.

I did not say anything about a possible work around. Only that you can run a gfx card in the other slot at 8x (even 2x) with no real performance loss. In order to switch the second PCIe slot to 8x you would need to move the jumper blocks NOT SLI BRIDGE. SLI Bridge is the piece connecting the 2 gfx cards.

Considering this person is running his X800 XL in the lower slot with no changes to the jumpers and only a 50 point difference in 3dmark, i'd say it will be awhile before anything comes on the market to saturate 8 lanes of PCIe. Note he is able to fit his Zalman NB cooler with his card in the lower slot. Again this may vary between cards.
