i've been haivng problems w/ my comp with like random restarts and i couldnt' figure out what was wrong with it. First i thought it was the memory since i ran memtest on it and it gave me errors. I rmaed the two 256 Buffalo Tech pc3200 back to the company and got new ones, and for some reason memtest also gave me errors on that. Now i'm thinking there was a heat issue since i was mildly overclcoking. Now my 2100 to 2600 on a 8rda+ is running 40 idle and 46 load, so i don't see a problem with heat there now. Everything is inside slk3700amb case so there should be proper airflow. So i opted to do a clean format and reinstall everything. Now when it gets to "installing the devices for windows xp", a BSOD with stop code : 0x0000007e (0xc0000005, 0x805aa106, 0xf8989bb0, 0xf89898b0) pops up and i don't kno what to do. Doesn't list any files wrong with it, just that stop code. HELP???

Memory tested with errors even with new memory? Sounds like your motherboard could be the problem. Either the motherboard itself is damaged (the memory banks), or the memory is incompatible with your board.

Have you tried resetting your bios and then try installing XP?

I did try resetting the bios back to default, but it still gave me the same problems. With regards to the memory, many other people used the same memory for the same mobo and they had no rpoblems with it at all.

hmmm try taking out everything but the videocard, and install windows. Then install one device at a time, until you find out what's the problem (that is if windows install correctly).

if i were to disconnect everythign i don't need, that would still mean that i take out only my memory and even then i'm not sure my comp would start up. the only things i have connected are: one dvd/cdrw, ti-4200 vid card, 160 gb maxtor hd, cpu/proc, and my memory.

Are you using a legitimate copy of Windows XP? I believe 0x0000007e errors are due to XP trying to register certain files that it's loading, but it's not finding the files correctly (or the files are corrupted and it cant' register them).

After many times of installing windows xp, for some reason this time worked. Now however, i've been getting a lot of restarts while i was trying to update my drivers and stuff.

Don't you just love how windows installs are so hit and miss in quality?

Just think, in three months, you'll be doing it all over again...

You miiight want to check your cdrom, I've noticed that Cd drives on their last legs are often a leading culprit in making it so that the hard drive windows installer never has the files it needs... just a thought.

in terms of the windows installation cds, they shouldn't be a problem since i've also used them to install windows on my laptop within the recent month and my laptop runs perfectly fine, except for the occasional overheating of the video card.

*how am i gonna check if my cdrom is the culprit....can't exactly unhook it since i need it to install windows

I installed XP on my cousin's box a couple months ago and it had read errors while installing. Turned out to be that one of his RAM sticks was bad. Took it out and it installed no problem.

one thing also might be a good idea is to do a low-level fromat of your hard -drive.
what kind of power supply do you have? is it reliable?, i have had some older computers that the PS went bad and it ruined first the mother board, then the memory and of course caused errors on the hd.
So you might check that,
also what kind of cd-rom are you using and what is its speed, sometimes if the cd-rom is really fast and the memory cant keep up with it because the data is moving to fast it will give you errors.
how long have you had your mobo?

I'm using the antec 350watt silent psu in a slk3700amb, and antec's been known to make reliable psus so i'm not worried about that since i bought it in september

same thign w/ my epox 8rda+ mobo, bought in september

again, with the memory, i highly doubt that buffalo would give me 4 sticks of memory which all had errors

i have a Liteon CDRW/DVD rom 48x24x48

i've formatted my hd a few times tryin to install it

just to make sure, i'll check each stick of memory doesn't have any errors, and if again, both have...i don't think it's teh memory's fault since they're freshly rmaed for my old sticks

Try making a backup from a different source for your WinXP. My CDR-W HATED my original copy of XP (the one from the box), but worked FINE with a copy of it :| Go figure.
