I'm trying to install Windows XP on my AMD 1700+ computer. The problem I'm having is trying to re-install
the XP Windows to my hard drive. I have all the cd's for re-installing. I have the XP Windows Cd that came with the system and I have copies of the XP boot set-up floppies that I created. The problems is when I get to the portion of set-up when installation should occur I get get the following message. It says to put XP cd into D drive which on many occassions it already in the drive. Then it says in order for installation to continue XP has to copy the following file "asrm" to the system. In the drive itself, it shows the following D:\i386. It says I need to type the pathname where I want the file to go but it will not do anything - won't let me type anything in. Its almost like its not recognizing my copy of XP when it gets to this point. The only way I can get out of this configuration is to hit cancel. After hitting cancel, a message comes back stating operation has been cancelled by user. Then the system reboots again. What am I doing wrong? I have followed the direction for partitioning correctly. I thought I maybe able to format the c drive in order to wipe everything off the computer, but I can't get a dos prompt in order to do so. I was able to add the authentication key to installation, but that's as far as I get.:disgust:
