I bought new HSF Zalman CNSP7000-alcu version to replace my old die-hard Volcano 7+. After finished installation, my system wouldn't post at all. The system ran just a few second and then shut itself down. I am not aware of complatible issue with my mobo or power supply requirements for its 92mm fan. Anyway I put back Volcano7+ and system work just fine once again (I have tried to install Zalman twice and both failed). Anyone have any ideas what went wrong in my case?

My system:
Abit It7-max (original)
P4 2.53@3.1GHz
TruePower 330W
ATI AIW 8500DV

Did you connect the fan to the mobo, or separately? I seem to recall that the advice with my CU-7000 was to NOT use the mobo connector, but I am not certain of that. Does the fan spin when you start up? You might have protective circuitry that won't let you run without a cooling fan.

yup all fans spin alright. I tried both directly to mobo and via 3-4 pin adaptor and also both with/without Fan Mate1. I think it might be something to do with pressure on CPU. I have notice border marks underneath of Zalman base.

I just test Zalman without installing (connect to 3-4 pins adaptor from outside the case) while my system running with Volcano7+. It works fine, nice and quiet, so it not Power Supply either.

BTW how much cooler will I get from Vocano7+ to Zalman S7000-alcu?

What thermal transfer material are you using, and how thick are you apllying it? These are meant to mount tightly to the MoBo. After that, I'd say you must be right. You can manually bend the arems slightly to reduce the applied pressure. Just remember, what you have is in effect a lapped HS, install it as such. Good luck.

I suspect your MB autoshuts down unless it detects RPMs on the CPU fan header. Maybe 2400 RPM isn't enough to register (which is true on some boards I own).
My MB (8k5a2+) has an option to turn that off. You could test that by leaving your Volcano plugged into the CPU fan header and running the Zalman off another header/PS.
BTW, I think it is an awesome HSF. I just got mine a couple of days ago. Keeps a stock 2400 at about 45 C with the fanmate all the way down 1300 RPM and inaudible.

Yup I got it. After I tested 7000-alcu a couple time outside the case with both 3-4 adapter and directly to mobo to make sure that nothing wrong with HSF itself and also system not overload to cause system shutdown. I know something wrong with my setting instead of hardware or HSF. Like Keyeys said it was autoshutdown setting that I have it enable long time ago (at first I plug 3 pin cable on case fan 1 instead of CPU fan so I guess system can see any fan running when start up. Thanks everyone and keyeye.

BTW, It might be too early to say that temps I got from Zalman are about the same or abit lower than Volcano 7+ medium speed fan setting. It's not so impress about temp but the big benefit is about the noise. I think it is worths spend some extra bucks just to keep your ears in peace.
