Problem w/ new XP 1600+

I currently have a Duron 800 on an Asus A7V133 (BIOS 1007). Last week I ordered a new Athlon XP 1600+ and Global WIN WBK38 cooler to replace my Duron. I also bought a new Antec 400W (PP-403X) power supply because my old PP-303X (not even a year old) didn't meet the required specs. Today when I tried to boot-up with the new parts installed, there was no beep and no video. Afterwards, I pulled out the new chip, put my old Duron / Cooler combination back in, and I was able to boot-up with no problem. I know my board and BIOS are supposed to support this chip, and I was VERY carefull installing the new CPU and cooler. I am assuming the the CPU is bad, and I am planning to send it back. My question is, is there anything else I should try? I've tried forcing board to 133MHz with the jumpers, but that didn't help. Is it possible that it could be my mainboard or memory? I have 1 256M PC133 DIMM (PNY I think), and no others to test with. I guess I could try forcing the board to 100MHz, but if it worked, what would that tell me?

first thilng first , try the chip in another bd. to be sure it the chip.
if you have friends like me they will have some test systems around and most will be glad to try out amd new jewel.

Unfortunately, I don't have another board to try it in. Also, I only have six days left to return the new chip.

If you dont have any mobo to test then use the WARRANTY.
Return it and say it didnt work on your system. And get another chip and then try.

Hardass is right, use the MANUAL JUMPER SETTINGS i.e. manually set the FSB and Multipliers using the jumpers in the motherboard itself. The manual will tell you how its done..

Thanks to all that responded.

I got an RMA# and sent the processor back. The guys in thier Tech Support department called me up and told me the chip tested ok, and they were shipping it back to me.

Well, I got the chip back today. I spent this afternoon playing with the manual jumper settings trying to get the thing to work. I tried just about everything, with no luck. I even went and bought a brand new 256MB stick of Crucial PC133, as a last resort. I finally decided to give the Asus website another try. Suprisingly, I found a new BIOS update (1008) on their downloads page, released on the 8th of this month. I really didn't think it would work, mainly because the 1007 BIOS is supposed to support the Althlon XP, but I decided to give it a try anyway. I put in my Duron, flashed the BIOS, put the Athlon XP back in, and IT WORKED!! When I powered it up, I got video and the beep. I can't tell you how happy I was to hear that beep! However, I still had to manually change the frequency, in the BIOS (not on the jumpers), from 1050MHz to 1400MHz.

Anyway, I hope this information my be helpfull to someone.
