I have a Netgear MR814 Router/AP and a Motorola WR850G Router/AP and I am trying to use both on the same LAN. I have read the FAQ and set them up as follows.
The Motorola WR850G will be called AP1 and the Netgear MR814 Router/AP will be AP2.
I set AP1 up at the main router with wireless enabled and DHCP off. I then assigned IP addresses to each of my PC?s. AP1 IP address is 192.168.10.1 and 128bit WEP. Channel 11
I set up AP2 (with DHCP off) with an IP address of 192.168.10.99. I used the same 128bit key and SSID here as I did on AP1. I used channel 6. My wireless laptop is configured to connect to the SSID with the 128bit key that is on both AP?s. I also have a Netgear MP101 wireless MP3 music player (IP address 192.168.10.7)
Here is what happens my Netgear MP101 wireless MP3 music player did not seem to have a problem connecting to another pc on my network, which it needs as a server to play music but the laptop would connect to AP2 but it would not route back to AP1. I could not ping AP1 but could ping the MP101. It seems as though for the laptop it would not route properly. What could be the problem?
I tried switching all the PC?s to DHCP with the exception of AP2, which I have an IP address outside the range for DHCP. But that did not work either. The laptop will connect to AP2 but no go anywhere. If I plug the laptop in via Ethernet it will connect to AP1 and the web.
I am forced to choose a setting for AP2 for it Internet address, normally this would come from the ISP but my choices are either automatically gets from ISP or I put it in manually. No matter what combo I tried it does not work. What should I do here?
I have tried some of the suggestions given here but I can not get it to work consistenly.
Please help.
