Problem with BattleField 1942

First my specs:
128Mb 5900NU 2.2ns
120 Gb
PC 2100 Ram
2.13 Ghz Athlon xp

Now I installed the game, got the newest update I think (1.5) and installed that. But, when ever I click to play the game it opens to the loading screen and just kills it to the desktop. With a windows beep. It shows no error message just makes a windows beep. Any ideas to fix it?

latest directx? CD is in the drive (or use of daemontools) ?

I have the latest directx and I have the cd in the drive. I was reading on the ea forums and they were saying that directx 8 may not be working, and I need to go to bios to enable it. Should I try that?

Go to ..\EA GAMES\Battlefield 1942\Mods\bf1942\Settings\, look for the file VideoDefault.con and open it with Notepad.

At the last line, it should be the line renderer.allowAllRefreshRates 0. Set the value to 1.

directx 8 isn't something you enable in your BIOS (it's also not the version you have if you have the latest...should be 9.0b) and unless you're running windows 2003, directx should be enabled in windows.
