im using a dell 9400 on a T 2400 with x1400

i tried powercfg and change the limit to none i have installed now notebook hardware controller and all these thing no matter wat i do it refuses to change the voltge and the cpu value

ritw now it idels at 1k ghz and when i run stuff throttles back up to the 1.83ghz

i want it to stay at 1.83 ghz when on ac power

completely delete your widows reg file from the recovery console. same reason your cpu doesnt need throttling- your pc doesnt use it ALL the time, so you dont need it.

Trust in the Core, believe in teh Core, the Core knows what is best for the Core. zig is right in that there is little point in having your proc run at full speed, even when on AC power. Heat is one consideration, you don't want it running full tilt all the time. Another fact is that you simply don't need it. Playing Solitaire does not require 2 cores operating at 1.83GHz to work properly.

So, what you are doing I am sure can be done, but why bother?

i cant believe anyone didnt know that was a wise crack. i guess you guys can also take a screwdriver and sharply drag it around your motherboard while its on. that should help performance as you flex everything out.

i guess to answer this very lame post (because its been asked and asked) its pretty dumb to worry about cpu trottling because the entire technology was designed to switch on and off with absolutely no noticeable difference in user performance and no user input at all.

Then it will give you 1.8...

Or is the situation that, as soon as you plug your computer into AC, you immediately start burning CDs, listening to music, using PhotoShop, and Illustrator? In that case well.... it will give you 1.8 GHz, if you need it which I don't think that you would. As an example, I have an intel Core Duo at 1.83. I can give an entire core and 512 MB RAM to virtualize Vista, and I can still rip DVDs, listen to music, surf the web and run Vista, and not even that fully stresses my system. All my RAM is used of course, but only one core is fully stressed. Tell you what, let me reinstall CS3 tonight, and I'll let you know how stressed my system is.

So...

Unless you are seeing a severe problem where your system is underclocking itself to say... 1GHz, fully stressed, but isn't then upclocking. Then you have a problem, otherwise, the sytem is giving you what it thinks is appropriate.

How much RAM do you have, how much of that is used? Also, what OS are you using?

If you only have 1 GB and are running Vista, and are doing that on it, then of course you will see lags. If you have 2 GB and are running Vista, then look and see if the system is fully stressed, and at what speed.

If you have 1 GB or higher, and are running XP, then look and see what speed and how stressed the system is. The lag is mostly likely caused by your ram getting full and the OS having to swap data out.

IMO its the dummest thing to do to a laptop. The tech is there for a reason. A laptop will overheat when forced to run full tilt constantly. It can't be lagging enough to cause you any serious emotional damage. :moon::roll:
