problem with game raven shield (vid card?)

SiS 650_750 Graphics Card



when i start up the game (single multi-player demo), it crashes even before i see anything and i get this error:


Feature not supported: D3DDEVCAPS_HWTRANSFORMANDLIGHT

History: UD3DRenderDevice::SetRes <- UWindowsViewport::TryRenderDevice <- UWindowsViewport:penWindow <- UGameEngine::Init <- InitEngine


i'm guessing that its my crappy vid card and this problem is unavoidable with the current one i have...but if i can get around it i'd really appreciate some help doing so! thanks in advance.

no hardware texture and lighting support

it may be possible to run it in software mode if the game supports it

try going thru all the config settings and display settings if you find something like primary display driver see if it also says software display etc...

if not then i doubt you can fix it short of a newer video card that supports hardware texture and lighting

see if it has a "safe mode" some games will let you boot up with that and change vid settings.

if not does it have a "splash screen" (it pops up ans you have to click [play]
usually you can change the settings there, b4 the game actually runs.

try to update the drivers for four card too, see if they support Direct3D

last thing is to be sure you have correct version of Direct X that the game needs (new games are usually 8 or 9)

if thats no good you might try getting a mainstream vid card.
you really only have 2 choices ATI and NVidia (although you can get there chips on another manufacturer's card.)

Yes, get a Radeon 8500/9100 or higher. Otherwise you could try using the OpenGL renderer. It is probably not officially supported and definitely is not as advanced as Direct3D but may work.

In the game's INI file in the system folder you would need to make a change like this:

before:
[Engine.Engine]
RenderDevice=D3DDrv.D3DRenderDevice

after:
[Engine.Engine]
;RenderDevice=D3DDrv.D3DRenderDevice
RenderDevice=OpenGLDrv.OpenGLRenderDevice

Get a new video card befor you buy a game (a video card is about the same price as the game) your system don't support.It states right on the box what you need if you read the spec,s for your sys.

'twas worth a shot. Perhaps it still checks for HW T&L support anyway or since the startup/menu system uses Direct3D it cannot be avoided. Try Epic's forums or support or break open the piggy bank.

Beware the low clock speeds. Checkout this list at allstarshop and compare core/mem clocks 64/128MB and 8500/9100 or 9500 and up to determine which is best for your budget. Given a similar price you may be better getting one with less memory but higher clocks.
