Problem with HDD i guess

Hello everyone,

I'm experiencing a problem with my PC, when I turn it on, HDD starts to beep for few times. System recognize both of my hard disks, but in windows performances are awfully slow.

What can be problem and how to solve it?

Unless you hard drive is making excessive noise while running, your hard drive may be fine.

If this is a Windows OS:

PassMark is a little program that can read the S.M.A.R.T data from the drive and tell you if anything doesn't look right:

S.M.A.R.T isn't a perfect test, but a simple thing to check off your list.

If no strange noise, and no large errors on PassMark, you might want to do a Ctrl+Alt+Delete and see how much free memory you have, and how much page file is being used.

You can also run the disk defragmenter that is build into the OS.

You also might want to download an anti-malware program such as this:

and make sure you aren't infected.

are you sure its the HDD that is beeping? The MB may be posting with several beeps.

As has been mentioned check the smart data and make sure the HDD is really ok. Check if some processes are not hogging resources and maybe stop them. Also check that the HDD is not completely filled up and running slow as a result.

I think he is talking about the POST beep. Now, it could be beeping more than it is supposed to. And if there is an error, many times the gui image will hide what the message is.

Oh yeah, I hope it is a beep code and not an HDD "beeping".

Beep codes for the mobo can be looked up to get an idea of what might be going on.

HDDs have a "voice coil" in them, and they can make beep-like sounds, but generally that's a very bad sign, as it usually means a head is stuck.

I'm gonna scan it with PassMark and Malware bytes, already performed disk defragmenter but nothing changed, it is still slow.
I will keep you updated if I find out something new.

could be a fan/heat alarm, and the performance is degraded for overheat protection
