Problem with networking

I have a small 5 user work group, all the computers can share files via tcp/ip and file and print shareing.

One computer lets call it computer X has some data that i want to access on it.
I can access that data from all the computers except for one of them. Lets call it computer Z

Computer X can get files and send files to computer Z

but

Computer Z cannot get into computer X without a password prompt coming up

Problem is that the user prompt is greyed out with the follwing:

computer X\Guest

password is blank...but guest user is disabled on this account.

any idea?

all other users can view the files without a user/pass prompt


there are no firewalls etc, i've also done the following

Loaded up the local computer policy snap-in via MMC

went to windows settings, security settings, local rights assignment

and on the "access this computer from the network" policy i manually added computer Z

still asks for password prompt.

Try making a login or turning guest on?

i did turn on the guest account and what do you mean try making a login?

making a logon other than guest

yup, already tried that.

also created same user names on each pc...same result

There is a check box you need to uncheck, it's called "use simple file sharing" I think. Do a search for it in the XP help and you'll find out exactly which window it's under, it's too early for me and I don't remember off hand.

That should allow you to pass a username/password to it.

Or, if you make a user account on both computers with the same user/pass, that should let you in, but it doesn't always work consistently for me.

Been looking for the classic 2k security permissions for awhile...i just cant see why the heck MS would disable it in the professional edition of windows. I'm likeing XP alot more now that i have a bit more control over it. Are there any other classic feautres from 2k that are ignorantly disabled by defualt that i could possibly reserect?
