problem with new pc

I had a problem with my DS3R and replaced it with the same model.
Now when I power on, I get "Geforce 7600GT 256mb blah blah" on the top left corner of the screen, then hear a beep, then just restarts. That's it.

I once hit the power button after that message and gave me the Gigabyte POST screen, but hitting Del or any other keys doesn't do anything.

Any ideas?

P35-DS3R
2x1g Corsair XMS2 DDR2 800

check all connections, re-seat ram and video card? replacing a mobo is such a pain :-/

I booted with 1 stick of ram and I was able to enter bios. Now I've set the DDR2 voltage to +0.1v, because the default is 1.8v and this ram works on 1.9v.

But when I put the 2nd stick, it did the same thing and I'm back to square one.

try putting the second stick in a different slot, or try with only the second stick in (try it in each of the 4 slots). Its possible that one of your ram sticks is dead.

Man, I really don't want to replace the ram too!!! I just replaced the motherboard, wth!!


I was trying to install windows vista but it took so long to "load files" and then it just froze before the Installation dialogue box appeared, after me having to press enter a couple of times. This happened with my old board, DS3R also; (thought maybe faulty ram?); before "Autorecovering........" appeared, a few restarts, and the board just died. I got worried so just cancelled the installation (didn't even begin, actually).

Now I 'm running memtest86, how long does it take anyway?? So far its been ~1hr 40min and I got a Pass 7 until now. Is it safe to stop and install windows or what?

you should run it for 12 hours. Your board and ram should still be under warranty at this point so replacing it should be a matter of time not cost.

I;ve run it for 2 hrs and got no errors, so that should be fine? I'm going to install windows now.


I bought them when I was visiting another country, so returning back is not possible. I learned my lesson......the hard way.

Guys, it's taking a LONG time to get the "Install" dialogue box to appear, (i might have to start pressing enter or opening the cd rom and closing it); then later "Please wait" takes a long time too, as if it's just froze. These are unusual amount of time. Any ideas?


And how do I choose test 5 only?

OK, I ran Test #5 [Block move, 64 moves] for over an hour and got 76 Passes.
Now what should I do?
Any explanation on why windows is slowing....before beginning installation even??

I've ran memtest for over 13 hrs and got 60 Passes and 0 Errors. So this stick should be perfectly fine.


Could I try changing the voltage? I remember someone here said to put the voltage to 2.1 instead of the default 1.8v, but I manually set it to 1.9v.
