Problem with Overclocking 4830

OK, I am getting confused, I think.
I have rivatuner to set my speeds on my 4830. Now, It seems like whatever I set it for results in no artifacting or really much change at all (FPS stay pretty consistent). I stress test with furmark and occt gpu. I've used GPU-Z and it confirms the overclock on the main page (graphics card tab), BUT under the sensor tab, it shows the stock clocks. Any ideas on what is going on? I am running Vista X86, E8400@4GHz and have the MSI 4830 (and have taken it to 800/1025 on stock cooling - was in the 60s C (confirmed in GPU-Z and Furmark) which can't be right)...
What am I doing wrong?
Thanks,
Mike

could you take a screenshot for us to see please? open cpuz gpuz (multiple instances) riva furmark etc

Atitool works well detecting artifacts.

OK, I checked it out, and I do have CCC installed. I thought I had the overclocking unchecked, but it was checked for overclocking. Unchecked it, restarted and it rechecks and enables itself. So I take it that CCC is conflicting with RivaTuner? If so, is that CCCs only real feature / quality or am I losing other stuff by uninstalling it?
Thanks,
Mike

Just to throw another wrench in the story here; I have both CCC and Rivatuner installed on my computer and they don't interfere with one another at all. I use Rivatuner for hardware monitoring and overclocking and CCC to control the image settings. I have Overdrive locked so that it doesn't interfere with my overclock and it works like a dream.

I have Rivatuner and CCC, no problems. If you're overclocking to 800MHz you can probably just use CCC to do that. Maybe that'll stick for you?

I would personally suggest you try ATI Tray Tools instead of Riva Tuner. I had no trouble running ATT and CCC together. Also, you can turn on the on-screen display with ATT, and it can show you the current GPU clocks and temperatures at the top right of the screen while you are gaming. That way, you can compltely confirm your clock speeds while in 3D. It's a very nice feature of ATT. Just install ATT, and turn on the "Flash-OSD" feature (I think it's under video options). No need to uninstall CCC - as another user said, however, CCC will already let you overclock to 800 Mhz, which might be all you need. No many of these cards can reach 900 Mhz (at least not wiothout serious voltage). Mine couldn't go past 800 Mhz. Try ATI Tray Tools, IMO is a lot easier to use than Rivatuner.

by default in CCC, OD only goes to 700 on the core for me, I had to use rivatuner to go higher, does enabling this "Flash-OSD" feature allow for the 800 ceiling?

Thank you everyone. I still need to test, but I reinstalled my drivers, and installed ATI Tray Tools. I will see what happens with that. However, where is the "flash OSD"? I didn't see it in any of ATI Tray Tools' options.
Thanks again!

It's in Tools & Options, On Screen Display, Flash OSD. You can have it display whatever information you want - FPS, temps, clocks, fan speed, etc.

Also make sure when you're using ATT to overclock that you hit "Apply" between each testing attempt. I remember thinking my new 4870 was an incredible overclocker when I first got it because the core was pushing 900 MHz without any more heat than normal - of course, it wasn't REALLY going any faster than stock!

When I try to go in that menu, it says it cannot find english.ini. Also, when I try to overclock in ati tray tools and hit apply, it goes back to my default clock. I have reinstalled ati tray tools with no luck, and am using catalyst 9.4. Even took out CCC in case, and still nothing...

ON EDIT: OK, now the cannot find english.ini is gone (uninstalled and reinstalled AGAIN). However, I still seem to be locked and cannot adjust my overclock settings. Please help!

Well, it may be Catalyst 9.4. Installed 9.5 Beta and things "seem" to be working. Currently at 935/1000 with a max temp of 62 degrees.

I just got my 4830 and I'm trying to OC it using ATT. However, overdrive only goes up to 700MHz on the core, and the other OCing option isn't letting me make any changes. =/

935/1000 on stock cooler with stock voltage? That can't be right, otherwise you've got the greatest 4830 in the world.

Overclocking the memory to 1000 is certainly obtainable. But 935 on the core? Most of us 4830'ers have to increase the core voltage for higher overclocks, and most are lucky if they can hit 800 core.

I raised the voltage on my Sapphire 4830 to 1.15v and I'm doing good to hit 760 core.

Mine's doing it no problem. I was actually wondering if that was low since I read about people hitting 800...
I'm actually testing at 745 right now and all is well thus far, and CPU-Z confirms the temps.

I think he means 735 not 935 on the core temp.

After installing Catalyst 9.5, I got OCing working on my 4830, yay. Using ATT, I got to around 710MHz before I completely lost video and had to do a hard restart >_> maxed out vram at 1000 MHz.
Core temp was up to 70C while running furmark. though it typically hovers around 50C in games. I'm thinking heat was keeping me from going much higher since Furmark seems to stress the GPU more than real games would....

But I'm also wondering what "SHADERCORE," "MEMIO," and "DISPIO" are. They seem like temps since it goes up like the core temp does, but I had SHADERCORE go up to 80, which kinda concerns me. And is the voltage control in the overclocking tab in ATT really control the voltage on the gpu? It was originally set on 1.25

dman918,

Which manufacturer/revision of this card are you running?
Up in the first post, he said MSI.

Maybe this?
That's what I have anyways.

Haha yeah I meant 735. Where are most people at without the volt mod? I have the msi that the link goes to.

Is the volt mod a pencil mod or hard mod?

Results via 3DMarkVantage (standard performance settings):

Stock GPU/Mem w/E8400 @ 4GHz
P 6189
GPU - 5771
CPU - 7910
FPS- 16.61, 17.21

745/1100 w/E8400 @ 4GHz
P 7376
GPU 7301
CPU - 7611
FPS - 20.88, 21.92

WOW! I would say that's an overclock! Again, stock cooling and voltage. I will probably run it again as I find it a little interesting that my CPU benchmark went down 300 points, and I didn't touch that so...

I think I'm pretty content.

For those interested, I got a stable 745/1100 on the card with the factory fan and voltage. Any info on the voltage mod would be appreciated. It seems that what I got is pretty consistant with what people are getting out of this nice lil card, correct?
