Problem with setting up new computer...

I went to my RAID BIOS and set it up so that my primary and secondary master HDD's were in a 64kb RAID-0 array.

It detects that they are in fact i an array. I installed windows98 (planning to upgrade to win2k, will get to that later) and it detects c: as 39GB istead of 80GB, which is what it would be if it counted both hard drives, or close to it. I havn't installed ANY drivers, so its quite possible that i need to install my highpoint drivers.

But, i didn't plan on installing ANYTHING, because I wanted to immediately upgrade to win2k, because I can't run the win2k setup from DOS, and appearently my boot disk isn't working (or my disk drive). So, I went ahead and ran the setup program, and everything went fine. I restarted my computer when it prompted me to, and booted into win2k setup. It went through a brief sequence of loading (with file names flashing by in the bottom of the setup screen) and then it said "starting windows 2000". It then gave me a blue screen saying I need to check my hard drive for errors. It did this to me 2ce, each time with a clean reformat and reinstall of windows98.

I didn't think that my hard drives were corrupt, because I had no problem installing windows98. Any suggestions as to why I can't istall windows2000?

I think that on installation of 2000 you have to load the raid drivers.... thats what i had to do when i loaded NT4.0 on a scsi raid array...

yeah, when i use the 2k boot floppies sometimes... it tell u to press F4 or one of those to load a SCSI or RAID driver! ... good luck on your comp... get 2k... OR XP.. get away from 98!

Oh ok, that makes sense, i did see that message but i ignored it (thought i could do it after it loaded).

BTW: I have absolutely no intention of keeping win98, just a way to bypass using a boot disk.

Ill post back here if i have problems doing what you suggested.

what mobo , raid, and hd are you talking about here?
describe what you have... and that'll help us better assess the situation.

Sorry, i was in a bit of a hurry so i just mentioned that my specs were linked in my signature.

Either way, the RAID driver idea worked, and win2k is now installing properly!

I dont know if i should start a new thread for this, but i'll see if anyone reading this one knows:

I installed win2k, but it still only sees c: as 39gb...I have 2 40gb (should appear as ~39gb each) in a RAID-0 config, and so it should read c: as ~80gb, or atleast recogize that i have a total of 80gb. Any ideas? I havn't finished installing all the drivers, but i did pop in the highpoint disk during the win2k setup and it solved my first problem...i figured the highpoint drivers were installed at that time.
