problem with water cooling

Hey all

I just bought the swiftech chipset cooler to go with the rest of my swiftech cooling setup. I am currently using 1/2" ID and 3/4" OD hose and with the 2 hoses I can't fit the clamps on the cooler because the bards are to close together. I'm planning on getting some 5/8" OD vinyl hose from the hardware store but swiftech's 5/8" clamps are to small and their 3/4" clamps are way to big to fit that hose. I think the metal 5/8" hose clamps would fit but they're to damn expensive, $1.75 a piece and I need 12... Does anyone know if there is an alternative I could use that would be just as successful? I thought of wire ties but they're hard to get off, on the other hand taking hose off in the past generally involves splitting it at the bard ends because it's so tight.

Any feedback would be appreciated

uhh... definitely dont spit on the barb ends. You'll introduce bacteria and other nasties in your coolant.

Anyhow im guessing you selected tygon tubing? Because of the 1/2ID 3/4OD, you need to use worm drive metal clamps. And make sure its a secure and snug fit.

That tubing will slip over metal barbs with little to no shove, on plastic barbs it maybe a little tough because of greater static friction.

Alternative route would be to get different tubing. Masterkleer 7/16ID 5/8OD will work on 1/2OD Barbs. And you can also use zipties as clamps for that tubing. Also its fairly cheap

Another route is from the same makers of tygon. A bit stiffer then what you have, but = to the masterkleer.

Otherwise i recomend you going out to home depot, or whatever hardware store of your choice, and picking up some metal drive worm clamps.

Just to clarify, I split the tubing to get it ON to the bards, I split it to get it OFF. I'm using some old Danger Den tubing and it has a sticky surface so once it's on the bards it doesn't like to come off easily when I need to switch the circuit around or add a cooling component. I always cut the split ends off before putting the tubing back on the bards as well, which generally makes them shorter and I have to cut a whole new section anyway.

Prices are great on that tubing by the way, at performance-pcs.com they charge over a $1.50 a foot, hardware store is 99 cents. thanks

Like aigomorla said, best bet is head down to AutoZone or Advance Auto or O'Reilly's or another auto parts store, buy a card of appropriately sized worm drive clamps. Cost you $2 or so for a set of four and they work like a dream. Easy to get on, easier to get off.....and completely reuseable. Won't use the plastic clamps unless I absolutely have to.....worm drive clamps are just much better.
