Hey all, I just finished putting my new PC together, specks are in the link "Black Betty". A Quick round up though, I have an Iwill KA266 board, 1.2 ghz 266 t-bird, and 256MB PC2100 RAM. My system posted and everthing seems great. I made no modifications to the board, made the CD the boot, and attempted to install Win2k pro. Everyhting goes normal to start, it goes through all the devices, and then says "setup is starting windows 2000", and then it hangs. No action from CD, nothing. I've used this Win2k disk on another computer and it worked fine, and I don't remeber an exhorbinant amoutn of time waiting for the setup, though I did only wait about 10 minutes and then shut i down and tried again (3 times). This is my first time building a PC, and my HD is an unformatted 60GB Maxtor Diamond MAX Plus. Do I have to do anything befroe I install the OS? Like I said, every device was identified in the bios, and the beginning of the install seemed to be going normal. I can't think of anything, but no doubt it's probably something stupid. I would really appreciate any input ASAP. Thanks -

BTW, I'm not running Raid or anything, have my HD set up as master IDE 0, my zip slave, and the DVD as the secondary master on IDE 1.

Try copying the i386 directory of your win2k cd to your hard drive and install from there and see what happens. But you problem sounds likes setup is not seeing your hard drive correct... If your on the ata-100 bus, you might have to downgrade your drive to ata-66 mode first then install... or try and F6 when it asks if you have any 3rd party controller drivers, then try loading up the via ide busmaster drivers from there.

Did you partition your drive and set the active partition? Also it seems
that Win2000 hates UDMA66 & 100 when installing. Use the IDE33 if you can
for installation. After you can install the udma drivers and switch over.

You also might want to try forcing (in BIOS) your DVD to PIO mode and play with DMA mode after Windoze is installed.
