Problem with Windows Login

Okay, heres the deal.

I got a new computer and it works great, except when its starts up and goes to windows, it bypasses login even though I have Primary Login Type as Client for Microsoft Networks.

I have a Win NT 4.0 Server used for authentication and program sharing and that is why it is imperative that I figure out what is wrong.

I have tried switching the login type to windows login and microsoft family login and that also produced same result.

When I go to START and Log Off... it will pop up the logon screen and everything is okay.

Can anyone figure out what is wrong?

I guess that you don't have a password for the user. You can go to the control panel and click on the "passwords". Once you change the password to something not empty, the logon dialog will show up.

i tried that. I made several users and it still had same probs.

Just for kicks...

On the client computer
Find / Files and Folders search for *.pwl delete all of them.
Next run Sysedit in either the Win.ini window or System.ini Search for 'password' in the password list delete all the *.pwl users. Reboot.

i deleted the pwl and acl files... But I did not modify the system.ini yet. I will try later.

Someone else I have consulted said it may be a corrupted registry key and he is looking into that.

On a whim, you could also try the family login. We use that here since I got tired of cleaning out accidental profiles all the time.

Did you put the domain name in the windows login properties? Have you tried logging off the network and logging back in?

Try this. In your network props. Click on Access Control. You probably have the default set to shared access. Change this to user access and authenicate to the NT Server or NT Domain (which ever you have your server set as). Reboot and see if you get the login prompt.

Can you ping the server? Can you map a drive to the server?

If you don't have network connectivity then you want get the prompt.

I'm actually trying to remove the login window that first come up. I've just put together a pc and experiencing same login windows as my other old pc. I haven't put any password because I was afraid of this. I thought you don't get this unless you enter a password. How can I remove login screen so it won't pop up during start-up?

if you set the login type to windows only, and supply no password, then it will not popup the login dialog.
