Problem with windows XP install...

Having problem install windows XP Pro w/SP2. I have order the Intel bundle package that comes with

1. Intel 915PBL Mother board
2. Intel P4 - 3.4Ghz 550 CPU
3. 2 stick of 256MB DDR2 400Mhz.
4. Antec ATX Case w/300watts Power Supply
5. MSI PCX5750 PCI Express Video Card

Here's the problem: It went through the windows installation just fine. Once the first reboot, it lock up
on the windows screen with the scroll bar.

This is what I try so far.

1. Reinstalling windows XP Pro with another CD.
2. Reboot Press F8 getting into windows starup screen. Selecing Last known good configuration.
3. I was able to get into safe mode and remove all the Driver in Device Manager. But that does not help.

Any Help would be great.....

had that happen couple years back,increasing the DDR voltage to ??? should allow you to get rebooted,but i am not sure you can adjust the DDR voltage in a INTEL board but you can try,otherwise try to get through the reboot with a stick of DDR 2100 or 2700.

if that doesnt help you may have to get another PSU as 300 watts is way way low for that sys

Check your DDR suppliers site for recomended voltage and up it slightly !!!

Thank's for trying to help me out.

The intel board that I have only can change the CAS Setting, but not voltage. The intel board can only
use DDR2 memory, not DDR. Slight differents. I have Infineon memory 32Mx64 SDRAM DDR2,400,CL3
I don't know if this memory is compatible with this board or not.

,better check the compatabillity guide as i think you have incorrect ram.

I'm having the same problems doing a new install on a new system (Shuttle mb & Kingston ram), except that mine hasn't completed installation. Locks up on the splash screen or the restarting installation or the "finishing installation" screen. I was told to do a bios upgrade which I haven't had a chance to do yet. I do know that the voltage thing didn't help me, nor did a different stick of ram.

There is a Bio's update for this model. Going to try it and reinstall windows again and see if that fixes the problem.

I just try updating the Bio's still does not fix the problem. Still hang's on the windows screen with the
scroll bar. After the first reboot, installing Windows XP Pro w/SP2.

Hey Guys,

Found the problem that cause it to hang on the splash window. It was the DVD Drive. Once I remove both
dvd-rw and my dvd drive, it boot up just fine. I decide to try just the dvd-rw and it work. Maybe the dvd drive I have is old and the driver might not be compatible. Well guys, thank you for all your help and hope you guys that have the same problem can be fix now.

Odd...it copied the files ok from your DVD drive, but wouldn't finish installation even though it was "done" with the drive?

Try it... The first step of the installation will copy the OS on the hard drive and once it the first restart
turn off the computer and unplug the DVD or CD-ROM Drive or use only one. It will work.
