hello folks
i am having some problems in Counter-Strike in my current rig. here are the specs:
- 750mhz duron @ 750mhz w/volcano2
- epox 8k7a w/latest bios flash
- 256mb pc2100 cl2.5 crucial ddr
- 64mb ati radeon vivo ddr
- 13.6gb 5400rpm wd hd
- win98 se w/directx 8
- via 4in1 v4.34
i am using the latest recommended drivers from ati's site. before that, i also tried using the latest beta drivers from rage3d.com. here is my problem: when i play CS, my fps range from 10fps to about 70fps. usually, its towards the lower end of this range....somewhere near 30fps. if i am staring at a wall or staying still, the fps will be pretty high. then once i start moving around...its nose dives to < 30fps. in many action sequences, my fps goes < 20fps...which really annoys the crap out of me. i used to play at higher resolutions, but now i play at 800x600 (using the opengl drivers). my quality settings in windows were always maxed out. even if i try to lower the quality settings, i still get crappy fps
i remember when i intially got this card, i used to get like 90fps....50fps in fight sequences. than i decided to reinstall my os, becuz i felt it was getting cluttered. after i did this, my CS was never the same again. i been having this fps problem for quite some time...about two months. i tried to reinstall the whole OS to try different driver releases, but it did not help a lick. so...for u radeon users out there, how is ur CS? what kinda fps do u typically get? is my CS performance typical of radeon cards? i would hope not, since i remember a time when my radeon worked like a charm, but after an OS reinstall, it pretty much sucks balls now. i am getting very frustrated...to the point i almost bought a gf2 gts
other then the problem in CS...my radeon has performed beautifully. but CS is pretty important so please....radeon users unite! any comment and suggestions would be greatly appreciated

P.S. - one thing i could be guilty of is the installation of mobo drivers. is there a site which tells me the sequence in which i have to install the drivers? for example, i know i have to install the 4in1's before the radeon drivers, but is there a specific order which i should install the mobo drivers? if this is not making sense, pleas let me know
