I got a very nice hp all-in-one for christmas to replace my aging deskjet. The directions say to install the software, then after the installation is finished, plug in the usb cable and power up the printer. When I do that the computer detected the printer, but as it attempted to install the printer, I get and error message saying "An error occured during the installation of the device", "The system can not find the file specified". That is all that is stated, no file name or directory is given, that is it. When I click the finish button at the button of this panel that contains the error message, the whole detection process starts again, ending in the same error. This continues as many times as I click the finish button(I did at least 20 repartitions). The only way to stop this insanity is to open the device manager and uninstall all references to Dot4 devices. I tried everything on hp's website, with no luck. I have sent an email to hp's support asking the same question, but maybe someone here has a solution(I don't have too much faith in email support). Here are my system specs:
Windows 2000 pro(fresh install)
Soyo KT400 dragon ultra platinum
Samsung 512 mb pc2700
athlon xp 1600
maxtor 80 hd with 8mb cache
geforce 2 pro
3com nic
on-board sound
hitachi dvd-rom
liteon cdrw
crappy speakers
Note that i have not had a printer installed previously on this install of windows
frustrating, eh?
