Problems Installing XP Pro

Ok, so I know that I put this in the wrong forum, but I really need some quick help. I was reformatting and doing a clean install of Windows XP Pro for a friend due to a virus, but I keep running into a problem. I reformatted and repartitioned the drive, but when I try to install XP, it gets to the "installing devices" part and stops around 2/3 of the way done. It doesnt lockup (the mouse cursor moves, the features of XP keep scrolling, and the little green boxes in the lower right keep moving) but the disk stops spinning and the "working" led stops. It never goes any further than that. I have no idea what it could be and would like to finish this project tonight. Lots of thanks in advance for any advice.

Take out everything but the video card, the RAM, one CD/DVD Drive and the Hard Drive(s). You can add the rest in after you install.

If it doesn't work take out all but one of the RAM, then all the RAM. It'll run like ass, but it'll install.

I had a similar problem -- it turned out that my scsi card was locking it up. After the install, I put it back in and it worked fine.

what he said, remove all un-needed hardware and try again.

Oh and remove any USB devices that are hooked up, I've seen issues in the past from that.

Oh oh oh, and make sure if you have a scanner or printer, usb hub remove it while doing the install.

There, I just got it. The disk is pretty old and been used quite a few times. Must just be a bad disk. Props to all for your speedy responses.

All computers have a minimal amount of RAM onboard, or at least all the ones I've set up. Enough to run the initial install process at least.

Sorry, I didn't realize that you live in a parallel space time continuum.

My appologies.
