Problems installing !

I found my system to be very unstable ...
I have the following:

AMD Duron 600 @ 600
Retail HSF
Asus A7v r1.02
128meg pc133 RAM (Hyundai)
Asus V7100 32meg Geforce 2 MX
250W power supply
SB Live! Value
Acer NIC 10mbps
Acer 56k modem

I couldn't even install win ME or 98 SE !
I get USER.EXE and GID.EXE errors right at startup. I also had the system freeze a couple of times during boot up (right after RAM, and sometimes when the ATA 100 controller is loading)

Does anyone have any ideas ? I'm really pissed off right now ... (spent 10hrs trying to figure it out)

I did change my VID Card and RAM with a friends, and was able THEN to install Windows 98SE, but ounce in Windows, everything seems alright with my RAM and VID (it froze once in like 7 hrs ... is it the RAM or Microsoft?)

I also put my RAM and my VID card in her computer and everything turned out OK ...

might be incompatiblities between your ram and mobo and/or video card.

ok pull out everything not essential..

sound card, modem, Network card, so you have just the motherboard , ram, cpu, video card, hard drive and cd-rom.

if possible put the hard drive and cd-rom on a ata-33 controller (i am not farmilar with that board so please bare with me). Try intsalling it on this and see how it goes. if it is well then add one other piece at a time and test to make sure you don't have any conflicts. continue this till you have all your parts intstalled.

If the ram and video card worked in there computer then that is a good sign.

some motherboards for AMD cpu's can be picky about ram. Is your power supply on AMD's recommended list? Your power supply could be flacky? any chance of trying another one?

This has happen to me once anyway my Windows98 crashed got Windows protection error,could not go into safe mode scandisk locked up halfway through with a boot disk,anyway finally got it formatted & this is where the fun begins ,after I got Windows98 reinstalled,on first reboot before any drivers installed, started getting BSOD,Windows protection error etc,could not even get back into Windows or safe mode,anyway I finally after several attempts got scandisk to run without locking up,& found I had a loose cluster file so I deleted it & Windows starting up fine after that & I could reinstall all my drivers & software with no problems the funny thing is the crash that started all this was when I was on the internet,I wonder if it was a power surge of some kind through the phone line? but then why did I get all these problems after format,I guess this is where they say welcome to Windows.

The K7V and Geforce had a number of issues between the two that I have seen in the past and too many to mention here. ATA 100 is causing problems for friends that use it now. Seems like with the K7V and GeForce you should have nothing less than a 300 watt in there also.
It's also important to have your soundblaster drivers up to date with Liveware 3.0 and the win98 upgrade file loaded. This has cleared up problems for others and be sure to get it in a PCI slot far from the GeForce card.
Have you tried the detonator drivers for the GeForce? ie..6.26?
