I have a E3 3000+ venice core proc, cooled by asus ICE STAR (runs 30 C). Useing an Asus A8N-E mobo. 512 (2x256) Kingston pc3200 CAS 2. Thermal take 480W PSU

I used to be able overclock my 2500+ barton easily, all u had to do was adjust the multiplier and that was about it. These days with HTT, ram dividers (wtf?), different voltages, adjusting FSB and what not... I'm lost. The best I can do is 2.0GHZ stable, which is complete crap. I want 2.2 or 2.4 if possible.

I've already read the "quick & dirty O/C" thread and I'm still lost. Can someone just tell me what to do to reach 2.2 or 2.4??? Recommend settings?

That was a good choice and should be a good overclocker. Here's the basics of what you do:

Set your HTT to 4x (it probably defaults to 5x)
Set your RAM speed to 166 (That's the divider, 166 gives you a 5:6 divider)
Increase your FSB up to say, 220

If you get to 220 OK, then try 230. If at 230 and 240 you have problems, set the RAM speed to 133 (for a 2:3 divider).

You may need to bump the CPU voltage up a notch.
I don't know about the quirks of the ASUS motherboard so this is about all I can give you.

If you run into problems you might need different RAM but that Kingston should work up to a point. (Kingston is not known as good OCing RAM.) You need the divider because since your RAM is DDR400, and you expect to overclock the FSB (which is the speed at which the CPU interfaces with system memory), lowering the divider ensures that the RAM speed remains below 200 when you overclock the FSB. This will speed up the CPU, though. The RAM speed is secondary in Athlon systems.

I would get 1 GB of RAM, preferably OCZ or G.Skill or some other brand known for OCing. It's cheap for PC3200 and much better for OCing.

Also read Zebo's stickied thread, he's forgotten more than I know....

i would do what he said, start with 220 HTT 4x and up it from there. but remember to have your memory at 5:6 and ALWAYS keep the command rate @ 1T If you cant get past a point try flashing your bios to the next stable one and start all over.
