Ever since I added my new ram to my computer, my once completely stable computer is now acting up on any 3d game or app. what happened was this. I added some corsair twinx 1024 llpt (400mhz) ram to my exsiting 512 of the same ram. well now my 2500+ @ 11.5x200 does not work. I have tried bumping the vcore and still restarts or freezes. I know its the ram becuase it happened as soon as i put it in.

here is the catch... i have the memory at spd the whole time so meaning its @ 200mhz non sync,
if i put my cpu back to normal. it runs fine, but the memory didnt change did it???? if I put the mutiplyer up to 12.5 but dont change the fsb. it runs fine. (still have to do more testing to make sure though..) so what does this mean? how do i get the mutiplyer higher than 12.5 on a a7nx8 dl if i put it at 13 it changes it to 800 mhz. please help dont i void my warrnety by overclocking my cpu even though i dont touch the ram?

You just need to raise your vdimm (ram voltage), assuming you are running Windows XP or Windows 2000. If you're running any version of Windows 98, you have to edit your System.ini file as follows-- add this line under "Cache": MaxFileCache=524288. Oh, you still need more vdimm, no matter which version of Windows you're running.

edit: its your mobo, I have that same motherboard and it gives me crap with my OCZ when I try running it at the specified timings. it can handle only 2-3-3-6 timings and then it starts going wack. unless you get a new mobo don't try running anything better than those timings.

Edit 2: you can also try flashing the bios but I'm not sure it will help

How can i change the vdimm though with out voiding corsairs warrenty? arnt they like 2.6 only? what bugs me is that this ram should run at 200 mhz.

as for the timings I changed them to 2 3 3 7 maybe 8 I have to check. it seemed to help but then i had to flash bios becuase of a bad O/C and i forgot to change my raptors boot to scsi so I though that the timings where making it not start. I am going to test some number and you guys tell me what you think.

Here are my specs

2500+
A7N8X Deluxe pb 1.04
Bios ver 1.04 asus version
1 512MB corsair 3200LLPT with spd timings (2 2 2 6) this is an older stick
then 2 512MB twinx 1024 3200LLPT spd timing (2 2 3 6)
raptor 74GB
9800xt

I am going to test out some O/Cs brb

Ok I did some tweaking and i think i will be happy
all memory timings are 2 3 4 7

this is what i think i will stick with 185 fsb x 12.5. seems to play games fine and runs 30 mhz higher then my first o/c

here are the other i tried and there results

12.5x 190 failed at windows logon vdimm 2.6 vcore 1.65
11.5 x 200 failed while playing game " "
12.5 x 166 works " "
13 x 166 works but it is 800mhz i dont know how to get around this.

Try running your tests with just the new memory - most systems do not overclock as well with four modules as they do with two modules - extended bus lengths and timing increases to support the second stick on each channel.

Generally, you will get better overclocks with two sticks instead of four sticks - this becomes more apparent with the more extreme your overclock is - voltage is also more important for the additional sticks since you will have a higher draw.

Your motherboard may not be able to use all of its memory banks at 3200 + speeds. Quite a few motherboards support something like "1.5gig PC2700, 1 gig PC3200" or simply, 2 slots PC3200.

Unfortunetly I am still haveing problems. Does anyone know of any site or any tips that talk about this 4 dimm limit thing that was mentioned smahoneys post?

I am back to default settings and the ram is at spd (200 mhz 2,2,3,6)

I just dont see how the ram can run at 200mhz right now. when before i installed the other ram, the ram and the cpu were running 200 fsb with no problems. does that memtest tell you if your ram is bad? and if it comes up with errors at defualt speeds is this enough evidence to have corsair give me a new stick??

None of these have worked.

This is the same setiings I ran before the ram.

My PSU is a 350W Fortron

that board is extremely picke about ram i think if you use 3 identacle dimms it will prob work but the fact you have 2 dimms one sive and onedimm of another is the problem try removine the old stick and run with the matched set.
lmk what hapens

Well removing the ram did help but still did not work entirly its more stable. i but up the vdimm to 2.7 seemed to help. but not entirly stable. just now i changed my mutiplyer to 11 rather than 11.5. we will see. the question is whould i see a bigger diffence is the extra ram or the extra 350 mhz that i might be able to get out of this.

I found that one stick has 263 errors after one pass. The rest I ran 5 passes and had no errors. I ran tests 4, 5, 6, this was recomended by the "ram guy" a sticky on there forum. He said to run it 100 passes though that would take an entirnity.

Anyhow I put the 2 sticks that did not have errors overclocked and ran tests no errors after 3 passes i was thinking that maybe I found the problem.

Still when I play games it will crash. ATI vpu recover gives me an error and takes me out of the game. If i turn off VPU recover it just crashes.

Drivers Catylist 4.6
Video card 9800XT (not overclocked)
