This problem started with my Tomtom gpss doing firmware updates. The devices are connected via USB. Everything downloads ok the update started and about 10 - 20% into it, the devices disconnected and I was left with dead units. I tried turning off antivirus and firewall, no difference. I think I changed the power settings never to sleep, no difference. I finally got the updates done by booting into safe mode.
I thought this was a Tomtom only problem as I have never had this problem updating other devices and gpss, even older Tomtom models.
Last night while updating the firmware on my Iphone 4, the same thing seemed to happen. Luckily this time I was finally able to get my system and Itunes to recognize the dead Iphone and it did a restore and all was well.
This leads me to believe there is something going on that disconnects or interupts the USB ports for a long enough period that the updates fail. I am running Windows 7 64bit, 8gb ram and plently of hard drive space. Is there anything you can think of that would cause these types of problems and/or any settings to prevent the USB problems and give them priority or prevent them from sleeping, etc.?
