Problems when Booting

When I turn on my computer, it comes on, fans spin, hd spins up, but there is no video. The monitor light just flashes and flashes. This happened a few weeks ago, but after I shut it down and tried again, it boot into BIOS saying something like "During the last boot up, your system hung due to an improper cpu speed setting. Please check your settings and restart." I have never overclocked my cpu so I dont know how this setting was changed. But I left BIOS and it booted up just fine. Today, I've tried everything that I know to do to get it going. I tried unplugging it for a bit, stripping it down to only necessary hardware, and I cleared the CMOS by removing the battery for 30 minutes. The system stats should be in my signature. Any advice that you can offer would be greatly appreciated, I really have no idea what to do now. Thanks in advance.

Try removing your RAM and inserting it into another DIMM slot. Also try taking out the video card and blowing on it to remove any dust particles. Could do the same with the RAM. Sounds lame, but it could work.

Your next step is to check your power rails in the bios. Might be under power managment. Check to see if the 12v reading is off.

Thanks for the quick response Regs, I tried messing with the RAM and the vid card, no dice. Same thing is happening. As for messing with the BIOS, I would love to try that but I cant even get that far. Thanks again.

Well Im sure that error you got was more than less helpful. Likely just a generalized error the motherboard shoots back at you.

You might need to RMA the video card or borrow someone elses to see if the system boots. I would find a replacement video card before RMA'ing though. Any piece of AGP enabled junk you can find. Since you could also have a currupted BIOS which could mean you have to RMA your motherboard. It would just be a pain to find out after you spent 2 weeks waiting on the video card RMA.

Yeah, I switched out the vid card with an old school ATI Rage that I had lyin around my house. It works perfectly, except for the 7mb of ram on the vid card (haha). I am going to RMA with Gainward later today. Hopefully that is all that is messed up. Thanks again Regs for your speedy responses.
