I'm sure everyone here has heard some stories about AMD being more or less compatible with softwares from Adobe, especially Premier.

One of my friend is currently running this configuration

AMD 3800+ X2 with 512k L2 cache
Asus A8N-E
1 Gig dual channel corsair ram
1 X300SE 128 meg card
1X160 gig hard drive

So far everything he tries doing is slower then his previous LGA775 2.8 gig pentium and he is really upset with the random crashes he gets, if anyone has any helpfull tools, please let me know.

About the only thing he can do with that, would be a Seperate Drive just to deal with his Video Editing Clips
And what is this X300SE 128 Meg Card ? ? ...Can the Memory on it be Increased ? ?
I would suggest dumping that card in favor of X600 or better card and add more system ram

I had no clue you needed a bigger video card to deal with this kind of stuff, otherwise I would have asked him to go with something bigger, and I've tried putting a second gig of ram in his system, same kind of results.

I will ask him to give me more details and also codes of when the cpu crashes to know exactly what happens.

1) First of all, is it Premiere, or is it Premiere Elements? What version is it?

2) is the program obviously executing on both cores? It ought to look something like this: pic of X2 executing a Premiere Elements job on both cores

I can confirm that an X2 with dual-channel DDR400 on an A8N-E is close to twice as fast as a 3.0GHz Prescott with HT and dual-channel DDR400, job-for-job. It's also stable, except that Premiere Elements 2.0 is a 'tard and refuses to burn dual-layer DVDs Adobe is shipping me a replacement DVD, since they are 'tards and forgot to test on dual-core AMD: Adobe = 'tards (or maybe they just own lots of Intel stock and do this stuff on purpose  )

Maybe something's wrong with his system setup. Disable Cool 'n Quiet as a fact-finding step, and install the AMD X2 processor driver if you didn't already do so.

Also, please get the model of the Corsair RAM in explicit detail. Be aware that ValueSelect is not on the QVL for dual-channel operation, and if it's XMS stuff, give it 2.8 volts, not the default AUTO voltage (2.6 volts).

Lastly, a true full spec list of the system may help. Check that he installed the nForce4 AMD chipset drivers for the motherboard, you never know what newbies may overlook

to answer mechbgon first, sorry, the version is premier 1.5, soon to be premier 2.0

and to answer bob4432, adobes web site isint the greatest when it comes to forums, and I wanted something impartial to tell me the "true" difference in performance between AMD and Intel...

If I wanted to go to adobes forums, I would have, but so far I've been more then happy with every comment left by most users in the forums here.

I will be getting in the near future a list of the "glitches and bugs" that the computer is having, anyone thinks a bios up would help?
