I got DVD shrink the other day to try and use to back up some DVDs. When I was putting them on my hard drive it keeps saying when it gets to like 99% that I'm out of room yet I still have like 15 free gigs on that drive. I was able to back up 1 DVD but the other two I tried I got that error. Is that something stupid DVD shrink does and there's some other program I should be trying?

I've never seen that problem from DVDShrink. Are you using NTFS file system? Are you outputting as ISO or DVD files?

Looks like that partition is actually Fat32. I assume I'm ripping it into DVD because its spitting it out as BUP, IFO and VOBs. Would it be better to reformat that into NTFS?

Fat32 has a 4 gig file size limit. A single layer DVD can hold 4.7 gig, so if you were trying to make a single file, you would likely hit the file size limitation.
In DVD Shrink, look under Edit -> Preferences -> Output Files tab, and make sure the option to split VOB files into 1 GB size chunks is checked.

Or just use DVD Decrypter, which automatically does that.

But DVD Decrypter is not going to shrink your original DVD's so they fit on on single-layer disk. You'll still need something like DVD Shrink for that.

Well I ended up getting that to work as well as reformatted that partition to NTFS so I don't have any problems with that. Now when ever I try and burn the files to a disc, DVD shrink gives me a "file reallocation" error and it won't burn. Any ideas on that one?

what happens if you rip to hdd (set backup target to hdd folder after clicking the 'backup' button), and then burn it to dvd using nero?

True.

But when DVD Decrypter rips, it automatically splits teh files into 1024 MB sized .VOBs

Also, AFAIK, when you use Shrink or maybe DVD-RB (link in my sig) to re-encode to a smaller size, it does the same thing.

Well I've come to the conclusion I got a dud DVD drive so that pisses me off. Out of curiousity if I'm gonna use Nero to burn it, which format of ripping via DVD shrink is best?

Not sure what you mean. Generally it's advised to rip the DVD to hard disk using DVD Decrypter, then you'd use DVD Shrink to remove the unwanted bits and compress it all to fit onto a 4.7gb DVD. You'd then burn the resulting files - DVD Shrink normally automatically loads Nero and tells it to burn the DVD, if it knows you have nero.

Since you're troubleshooting, I'd suggest tell DVDShrink to backup the DVD to a folder on the hard disk, then run Nero and hit "DVD video files" when asked what you would like to burn. Once it's running OK you'd just have DVDShrink automatically load Nero and burn the DVD, means you can go away and leave your PC to complete the job.

I use DVD shrink to rip to the HD, and it goes straight to DVD decrypter for the burn. Isnt that how everyone does it? DVD shrink knows when you also have DVD decrypter on your system.

Try this. Get DVD Decrypter and run it in "File" mode (go to Mode and click on File). Then run your DVD through the program. After it is done, start up DVD Shrink and point it to the folder that Decrypter used for the DVD files. Shrink should recognize it and "do it's thing". I just went through this with a friend of mine and it solved his problem.

I think it goes straight to Nero for the burn.
