Problems with E8400

I've been running stable my E8400 @ 3.8GHz (9x442 @ 1.3V in BIOS) with temps at 37/52 so I decided to push for 4.0GHz (9x445 @ 1.3V in BIOS) but I got BSOD in Windows. I then tested voltages up to 1.33125V and I was still unstable, so I gave up and went back to my old settings for 3.8GHz, only to discover that it was no longer 100% stable. I did around 10 minutes of Prime95 to be safe and it was error free so I thought I was fine, but when I opened an MP3 I locked up and had to reboot. Is this sort of thing common, where if you go back to once "stable" settings after a higher OC it won't be stable anymore?

I bumped up my Vcore by 1 step and it appears to be okay right now but I haven't stress tested it yet.

Most of my motherboard settings are on auto besides Vcore, and I have things like enhanced halt state disabled.

Also, if you are going up to 4.0ghz, you can increase your voltage up to 1.3625, thats intel's max specification for core voltage, so as long as you are below that, you are fine.

Try turning LLC (load line calibration) on or off, see which one works better (e.g. your system is more stable)

Also, with that board (i have it, no FSB problems), you can go way higher, espically with those temps at 3.8ghz.

I heard turning LLC on decreases the Vdroop effect (however in my case it actually seems to be inverse Vdroop). I originally had LLC off but I turned it on and didn't run into any problems until I cranked up the FSB. If you don't mind me asking Dopekitten, what are you running at?
