Tried updating the motherboard bios. Can't find an update for the RAID bios itself.

Damn. Still not working thought is was before. Tried copying 40 megs of stuff from one drive to the next and it crashed again. Updated the bios with uz103b1. And installed the new drivers for Windows 2000. Any other suggestions?

make sure your bios version and highpoint drivers are the same version.

I know you might not want to hear this but try using a regular IDE cable instead of an Ultra cable. I bet it will work!

Some Maxtor drives don't like the highpoint controllers with an Ultra cable.

I had this same problem on a BE6 using HPT366.

The fix was to remove the drives connected to the highpoint controller -- no more crashes while copying files!

I also had the same problem on the BP6, but luckily updaing the Windows Drivers for the highpoint device fixed the problem this time.

Unfortunately, I updated the BIOS and drivers and my computer is still crashing. I bought this board instead of the Non-Raid version soley for the speed and extra room for more devices. It was also supposed to be a better board than the A7V speed wise. Except for this problem it is a good board. Looks like I might have to go back and trade it in for an A7V.

Do what I did. RMA the RAID version for a non-RAID version and get the Promise card. I paid $20 bucks at buy.com. You can modify it and make it into the RAID version of the Promise card.

I think I'm am going to go with the Asus A7V instead. With new drivers and BIOS updates, its supposed to allow all 8 drives to work simultaneously. and the promise card is moded. Anyone else hear that? I do lose one PCI slot though. What do you guys think. I also heard that the Asus board and new bios allow for multiplier, fsb, and voltage tweaking like SoftMenuIII.

I have a couple of Abit's BE6 and they have the HPT366 highpoint controller. Highpoint sucks. Apparently they can't make a hard drive controller that works correctly. I tried all of the drivers and BIOS updates and my computer still locks up whenever I try copying the contents of one hard drive to another. It especially sucks because I can't turn the controller off. There is nowhere to do that! Abit tech support said the only way would be to physically remove the Highpoint chip.

It looks like even newer motherboards have the same problems. Abit sure did screw up using Highpoint.

Do you have ACPI enabled? If you have Win2K, probably so. I use Win98SE, but I would crash all the time because I had "PNP OS" enabled in my BIOS. If ACPI is enabled, "PNP OS" should be disabled. Might want to check that out.

Just to let you know, I have similar issues on A7V as you have on KT7 Raid. When I transfer large amounts of data at one time, from hard drives connected to the Promise controller, I kept getting errors (file in use). I put one drive on the VIA IDE and the copy worked just fine (12GB). I don't have any problems with my KT7 Raid, but I've never tried copying large amounts of data from Highpoint to Highpoint. I think all third party ATA100 controllers suck. Just move it off the Promise controller to do the copy, if it's a 1 time thing.

OGN, as for you, I would try flashing the BIOS with the newest release for the A7V. I think that the new ROMs fix issues like that. As for me and the KT7-RAID, I fixed the problem, finnally! THere are many reasons that the KT7-RAID might have these problems. One in ACPI. The other issue, which affect me, is the I/O Volatage. For some reason, the default voltage, 3.30V, is too high or something. By entering SoftMenuIII and lowering the voltage to 3.20V fixed the issue completely. Did comprehensive tests and am positive this is the case. Go figure. By I am now running fully stable.

I have the latest officially released 1004D bios for the A7V. I found that it may be the drivers I have been using. The Asus website actually lists drivers that are newer than the Promise site does. I have been using the Asus build 25 drivers. I reverted to Promise build 19 drivers. I don't know if it helped or not, since I haven't had the need to do a large file transfer. Once my WD hard drive comes back (bad after 3 DAYS!!!) I try it again.
