okay here's the breakdown of the situation:
1. T1 line (1mb/1mb) comes into the hotel
2. runs into IT guys 4 different routers/switches/etc.
3. line runs into the linksys 8 port router for the hotel (internet)
4. 3 - 24port 10/100 switches are ran off this router
5. 1 - wireless access point also ran off this router
hotel opened in 09/2004 (avg 70% occupancy, 23% internet useage)
didn't start having problems until 07/2006 (avg 72% occuapancy, 55% internet usage)
would have to power down and reboot router/switches once a day at least
replaced netgear 4 port router with linksys 8 port in 08/2006 (current setup now)
as was told by IT guy that the router was the source of problems.
now the linksys router is there and the IT guy again is saying replace the router
same problem, will have to cut power, reboot everything to get it running again
IT guy is almost impossible to get a hold of, takes the threat of messing with his cisco equipment to get an answer out of him.
anyway - is the problem with the router? just too many people trying to get on?
or could the lack of speed of the infrastructure cause this problem (too many people trying to grab a piece of 1mb/1mb?)
any help/insight/thoughts will be appreciated
