I dotn know why but the computer "locks" up (computer wont open anything anymore and you can only urn whats up at that time). This has happened to me more than 10 times and its beginnging to piss me off hella. I know its not a mobo or any of that type of thing error because i jsut got a new computer and its still doinf. My conclusion is thats its windows 2000 pro. I have a oretty up-to-date computer so it should be doing this. Specs:

proc: Athlon XP 2000 (not o/ced)
ram: curcial pc2700 (not o/ced)
mobo: ASUS A7V8X
vid card: PNY GF4 TI4200 64 DDR w/ 8x AGP support
OS:Windows 2000 professional

any help that could fix this is apprciated!

EDIT: I also have a problem with a slooow shut down. It saves settigns for a long time (30 seconds is too much for me). any help with this is also appreciated.

Make sure you updated all your hardware to the latest drivers.
Check if the NTFS file system is working properly or not.
Download the Win2K service packs
If all else fails do a clean install or switch to WinXP

1st I'd remove either of the 2 opticals(1st that Artec..try..then the Liteon..try) trying that..if nogo..do you have another stick of known good errorfree ram to test with..? (hopefully the psu is good enough but even that might need testing/swapping out) as far as the sound nogo ..first need system stable then hunt/work on that..hopefully you can isolate a component that is the trouble..had one install that fell apart..traced back to a bad Sony 24x10x40(RMA'd it afterwards ) on the install of the OS..was dropping very small files(kbs in size) thought my CD media was bad but

Problems like that can be tricky to track down. Have you looked in your Windows event logs to see if there are any errors or any strang things showing up?

Your "slooow shutdown" is probably due to the Windows Q329170 Hotfix update which can be removed via ADD/REMOVE programs.

I uninstalled this and it did not fix that problem.

hmm the only thing that i see thats bad is :

The COM+ Event System detected a corrupt IEventSubscription object. The COM+ Event System has removed object ID {61F017E4-124D-4C6D-82F3-8CC64F23A645}. The subscriber will no longer be notified when the event occurs.

i also get ALOT of : The device, \Device\CdRom0, has a bad block.

other than that it looks fine.
