Problems with Logitech Quickcam Express

hi.

I have Logitech Quickcam Express and i cant get it to work properly. I have winXP, and i've downloaded the setup files that support XP. when i'm almost done with my installation, the window where i can modify my camera focus, it freezes and i have to press ctrl-alt-del. then, when i try to open up the camera program its dead slow, and freezes after a few moments. every time. plz help.

Update all drivers and system files pertinent to the proper operation of the Quickcam. These devices include the OS, chipset, BIOS, and USB controllers (Or whatever method the camera is connected to your computer).

ok, i would just like to be positive that there's nothing else that i can do that's a little less comprehensive, before i start the re-installing process...up up up....

I have the same problem with my winXP and Quickcam Express as you. I've tried upgrading all the drivers, searched for patches but so far nothing seems to work! - I havent tried reinstalling windows, though.

The funny thing is: A friend of mine had a similar camera and computer configuration as mine (asus a7v133, 1G Athlon, winxp) and his cam didn't work either. He has recently upgraded (can't remember his present config) and now his cam works fine!!!

I've also tried the cam on my winxp laptob: The quickcam works fine!!!

To me it seems like an incompatibility with the asus a7v133 motherboard. You wouldn't happen to be using an a7v133 or something similar, would you???

What kind of motherboard are you using? Some older mobos, especially ones with VIA chipsets, have buggy USB implementations and are not fully USB 1.1 (10mbs) compatible. Mobos based on the VIA 686A southbridge has this problem ( the 686B is usually better). Try buying a USB PCI add-on card (one with a Lucent chipset), disable the on-board USB and use the ones on the card. I bet ya the video would be as smooth as silk

I use Aopen AK33 mobo. with a VIA chipset. i really wouldn't like to purchase an USB add-on card just for that cheap camera which costed me $25 bucks (norwegian price). furthermore, its not really mine, it was meant as a x-mas present for my sister, giving me another reason for not go out big!

I had the problem with WinXP and a Dragon+. I just went back to Win2K and now it works fine.

For me everything worked fine in win2K. It's kind of odd it doesn't work with winXP

Well, USB add-on cards are pretty cheap, Around $19-29 depending on the number of ports. Check Logitech's site concerning problematic USB chipsets here. You can also check this site for more info.
